Role Context
The School Librarian plays an important role in supporting students and teachers by managing access to books, digital resources, and research tools while creating a welcoming and productive learning space. This position helps strengthen literacy habits, academic research skills, and curriculum support across the school community.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain an organized, updated, and accessible collection of books, digital resources, and reference materials.
Develop and implement library policies, borrowing systems, and operational procedures for efficient library management.
Classify, catalog, and label new books and educational materials using standard library practices.
Ensure the library remains well-maintained, welcoming, and supportive of student learning and research activities.
Assist students in developing research skills, information literacy, and effective use of educational resources.
Support teachers by recommending and providing instructional materials aligned with curriculum requirements.
Organize book fairs, reading programs, literacy campaigns, and student engagement activities to promote reading habits.
Guide students in using library databases, e-books, and online learning tools effectively.
Maintain and update digital library systems and support access to modern educational technology resources.
Teach students how to evaluate digital information responsibly and accurately.
Keep records of library transactions, overdue books, usage reports, and resource statistics.
Manage library budgets, procurement of books, subscriptions, and educational materials.
Stay updated with educational trends, library technologies, and literacy development programs.
Collaborate with school leadership and teachers to strengthen the library’s contribution to academic success.
Ideal Profile
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Library Science, Information Science, or a related field is required.
Previous experience as a librarian, preferably within a school setting, is highly preferred.
Strong knowledge of library management systems and digital research tools is essential.
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Passion for literacy, education, and student development.
Ability to create engaging reading programs and student-centered learning initiatives.
Familiarity with UAE educational policies and curriculum is an added advantage.
