Role Context
The School Librarian - Learning Resources will manage the library as an active learning space that supports reading, research, curriculum delivery, and student development. The role includes organizing books and digital resources, maintaining library systems, guiding students in information literacy, supporting teachers with instructional materials, and leading reading initiatives. The successful candidate will help create a welcoming, technology-enabled library environment that strengthens literacy, curiosity, and academic engagement.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage the school library as an organized, accessible, welcoming, and student-centered learning space.
* Maintain an updated collection of books, reference materials, e-books, digital resources, and online research tools.
* Develop and implement library policies, procedures, borrowing systems, cataloguing standards, and resource usage guidelines.
* Classify, catalog, label, and process new books and learning materials according to standard library practices.
* Ensure library resources are arranged clearly and maintained in good condition for student and teacher use.
* Assist students in developing research skills, information literacy, reading habits, and responsible use of learning resources.
* Guide students in using library databases, digital platforms, e-books, and online research tools effectively.
* Teach students how to access, evaluate, and use digital information responsibly and accurately.
* Support teachers by recommending books, reference materials, and instructional resources aligned with curriculum needs.
* Organize book fairs, reading programs, literacy campaigns, library activities, and student reading initiatives.
* Promote a love for reading through displays, storytelling, book recommendations, reading challenges, and student engagement programs.
* Maintain and update digital library systems to support modern learning methods.
* Keep accurate records of borrowing transactions, overdue books, inventory, resource usage statistics, and library reports.
* Support library budgeting, book selection, resource procurement, supplier coordination, and collection development.
* Collaborate with teachers, coordinators, and school administrators to strengthen the library’s role in teaching and learning.
* Stay updated with educational trends, library technologies, reading programs, and student literacy development practices.
* Maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful library environment that supports learning, research, and student wellbeing.
* Follow school policies related to safeguarding, resource management, academic support, and student conduct.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Library Science, Information Science, or a related field.
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English with experience in teaching and managing a library may also be considered.
* Previous experience as a librarian, preferably in a school setting.
* Strong knowledge of library management systems, cataloguing methods, digital research tools, and resource organization.
* Experience supporting students and teachers with reading, research, curriculum resources, and digital learning tools.
* Excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal, and record-keeping skills.
* Passion for literacy, education, student learning, and reading development.
* Familiarity with UAE educational policies and curriculum will be an advantage.
* Ability to manage library resources, budgets, book procurement, and usage records accurately.
