Role Context
The Teacher - Art will deliver engaging visual arts lessons within a supportive American Curriculum school environment in Abu Dhabi. The role focuses on developing student creativity, technical art skills, confidence, expression, and appreciation for visual culture while maintaining high expectations for learning, behaviour, assessment, and classroom engagement. The teacher will work closely with colleagues, parents, support staff, and the wider school community to create a positive learning experience that supports both academic progress and personal growth.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan, prepare, and deliver inspiring Art lessons that meet curriculum expectations and support a wide range of student abilities.
* Create an engaging classroom environment with appropriate learning resources, displays, and visual materials that encourage creativity and active participation.
* Teach visual arts concepts, techniques, creative processes, and project-based activities in a way that motivates students and supports individual expression.
* Work collaboratively with fellow teachers to plan lessons, align curriculum expectations, and share effective teaching strategies.
* Support students in building confidence, artistic skills, critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and appreciation for the arts.
* Assess student progress using school assessment systems and use results to guide planning, intervention, and classroom support.
* Take responsibility for student progress by monitoring learning outcomes, recording development, and identifying areas where additional support is needed.
* Provide meaningful feedback to students, parents, and carers through Parent Teacher Conferences, school systems, and regular communication.
* Manage classes effectively by applying school behaviour policies and using approaches suited to student needs.
* Maintain positive relationships with students while promoting self-control, independence, respect, and high standards of behaviour.
* Act as a positive role model by demonstrating professionalism, respect, cultural awareness, and the values expected within the school community.
* Work with parents and colleagues to support student happiness, wellbeing, and academic achievement.
* Liaise with curriculum support staff and external professionals such as therapists or educational psychologists when required.
* Contribute to curriculum action groups, resource planning, assessment development, special events, and wider school initiatives.
* Support school events, outings, activities, performances, exhibitions, and community activities, including those held outside normal school hours when required.
* Run a weekly extracurricular activity each term to enrich student learning and school life.
* Use school systems such as CPOMS where appropriate to communicate matters related to student achievement and wellbeing.
* Reflect on classroom practice, student outcomes, and learning provision, then adjust planning and teaching methods to improve results.
* Maintain safeguarding awareness and follow school policies to protect and promote the welfare of children and young people.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s Degree in Education with specialization in Art, or Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant Art-related field with PGCE or recognized teaching qualification.
* Minimum 2 years of teaching experience in Art is mandatory.
* Strong teaching experience within the American Curriculum.
* Experience teaching AP Level Art will be an advantage.
* Previous experience working with students for whom English is not the first language will be beneficial.
* Clear understanding of curriculum planning, classroom delivery, assessment, and differentiated learning.
* Passion for teaching Art and commitment to educating the whole child.
* Strong classroom management skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and challenge students.
* High level of professionalism and genuine consideration for student wellbeing.
* Recent and consistent involvement in extracurricular activities.
* Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and support staff.
* Positive and solution-focused attitude toward school life and professional responsibilities.

* Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural school setting.
* Clean enhanced Disclosure and Barring Services check or police clearance required.
