Role Context
The Teacher - Female Physical Education will help students build confidence, coordination, teamwork, resilience, discipline, and a positive attitude toward sport and healthy living. The role covers lesson planning, practical PE delivery, student assessment, curriculum contribution, sports team coaching, extracurricular activities, parent communication, and safeguarding responsibilities. Working within Yasmina American School, the teacher will contribute to an engaging learning culture where students are challenged, supported, and encouraged to reach their potential through high-quality physical education.
Core Duties
* Plan and deliver engaging Physical Education lessons that support student progress, participation, physical confidence, and skill development from KG to Grade 8.
* Create a positive learning climate where students feel motivated, safe, included, and ready to participate in practical PE activities.
* Set clear teaching objectives and define how each lesson will be taught, assessed, and adapted for different ability levels.
* Design challenging tasks that maintain student interest, encourage effort, and promote high expectations in sport and physical activity.
* Build lesson sequences around prior attainment, clear targets, appropriate pacing, motivation, and practical challenge.
* Use assessment information, performance data, and key indicators to plan differentiated learning that meets student needs.
* Ensure students develop knowledge, skills, fitness, coordination, teamwork, and understanding appropriate to the PE curriculum.
* Teach and support key sports areas including volleyball, basketball, athletics, and related physical education activities.
* Maintain an effective learning environment in line with academy procedures, with clear expectations for punctuality, behaviour, participation, and standards.
* Monitor, assess, and record student progress systematically, identifying strengths, development areas, and next steps for learning.
* Mark, review, and evaluate student work or practical performance where relevant, setting clear progress targets.
* Prepare informative progress reports for parents and participate in parent teacher consultations, open events, and school communication activities.
* Contribute to curriculum development by supporting subject plans, success criteria, resources, assessment practice, and improvement priorities.
* Take part in whole-school vision activities and support the academy’s strategic intentions and improvement plan.
* Coach and support high-level sports teams, fixtures, competitions, and student performance opportunities where required.
* Contribute to extracurricular sports and enrichment activities, maintaining recent and consistent involvement in wider school life.
* Support school marketing, liaison events, open evenings, parent meetings, and activities with partner schools or community groups.
* Cooperate with colleagues to share resources effectively and strengthen outcomes for the academy, department, and students.
* Evaluate teaching practice critically and use reflection to improve lesson effectiveness and student outcomes.
* Follow academy policies on safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, safe working practice, equal opportunities, dress code, photo ID, and acceptable computer use.
* Attend staff briefings, annual training, performance management activities, and professional development linked to school improvement.
* Maintain accurate professional conduct and serve as a positive role model through behaviour, presentation, communication, and respect for the school community.
Required Skills and Experience
* Bachelor’s degree in Education, Physical Education, Sports Science, or another related field with a recognized teaching qualification.
* Minimum 2 years of PE teaching experience from KG to Grade 8 is desirable.
* Strong knowledge of volleyball, basketball, athletics, and practical sports instruction.
* Experience coaching and leading high-level sports teams is highly valuable.
* Experience delivering exams or supporting formal assessment processes is an advantage.
* Previous experience working with students for whom English is not their first language is beneficial.
* Passion for teaching, sport, wellbeing, and educating the whole child.
* Strong understanding of planning, preparation, teaching delivery, lesson management, assessment, recording, and reporting.
* Ability to set demanding but achievable expectations and help every child work toward their potential.
* Excellent classroom and practical behaviour management skills across sports halls, outdoor areas, courts, and activity spaces.
* High level of professionalism with clear consideration for child wellbeing, safeguarding, and safe learning environments.
* Respectful approach toward all members of the school community regardless of role, gender, age, or background.
* Positive and solution-focused attitude to school life, teamwork, challenges, and professional responsibilities.
