Role Context

The Teacher - Primary American Curriculum will take responsibility for classroom learning, student progress, assessment, behaviour, wellbeing, and daily teaching practice. The role requires a clear understanding of curriculum expectations, strong classroom organization, effective use of learning resources, and the ability to adjust teaching based on assessment evidence. By building positive relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and support professionals, the teacher will help create a learning culture where children are motivated, supported, and encouraged to achieve successful outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

* Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging classroom lessons that meet the needs of students across the full ability range.
* Demonstrate a clear understanding of the American curriculum and translate learning expectations into purposeful classroom practice.
* Organize classroom provision, learning resources, displays, and routines to create a positive and stimulating learning environment.
* Motivate pupils through enthusiastic, imaginative, and age-appropriate teaching strategies.
* Take responsibility for the progress of the class by using assessment information to guide planning, provision, and intervention.
* Observe and assess students in line with school assessment procedures and maintain accurate records of development.
* Use Target Tracker and other school assessment tools to record progress, monitor attainment, and identify next steps for learning.
* Analyze assessment data to adapt lessons, improve classroom provision, and support individual or group intervention.
* Reflect on classroom provision, lessons delivered, student progress, and curriculum coverage, making practical adjustments where needed.
* Meet with specialists such as speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, educational psychologists, and other support professionals when required.
* Embed Teacher and Learner DNA language, attitudes, and expectations throughout classroom routines and curriculum delivery.
* Provide clear feedback to parents and carers on student progress during Parent Teacher Conferences and other school meetings.
* Manage classes effectively using approaches that inspire, motivate, challenge, and support students with different learning needs.
* Follow the school’s behaviour policy and maintain high expectations for behaviour, respect, self-control, independence, and effort.
* Build strong relationships with pupils while exercising appropriate authority and acting decisively when required.
* Serve as a positive role model by consistently demonstrating the attitudes, values, and behaviour expected from students.
* Carry out school duties as directed and in line with school policies.
* Support safeguarding, child wellbeing, inclusion, health and safety, and respectful professional conduct in all areas of school life.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues, support staff, leaders, and parents to strengthen student learning and wellbeing.
* Contribute to the wider school community through meetings, events, enrichment activities, and professional responsibilities.

Ideal Profile

* Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related subject with a recognized teaching qualification.
* Experience teaching within a primary or elementary classroom environment is preferred.
* Strong understanding of American curriculum expectations and classroom teaching practice.
* Ability to plan lessons that support varied learning needs, abilities, interests, and development levels.
* Confident use of assessment systems, progress tracking, and data-informed planning.
* Familiarity with Target Tracker or similar student progress platforms is an advantage.
* Strong classroom management skills with a calm, consistent, and positive approach.
* Ability to create a welcoming, organized, and engaging classroom environment.
* Skilled in communicating with parents, carers, colleagues, and external support professionals.
* Reflective teaching style with the ability to adapt planning and learning environments based on student progress.
