The Career and University Guidance Counsellor plays a strategic role in preparing students for life beyond school by supporting academic progression, career planning, university admissions, and student profile development. This position strengthens school partnerships with universities, alumni, parents, and external institutions while helping students achieve successful future-ready outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

* Support the strategic direction of the careers and university guidance programme by working closely with leadership, staff, students, and parents
* Guide students through transitions from KS3 to KS4 and KS4 to KS5 with strong academic and career planning support
* Help students complete local and international university applications within required deadlines
* Conduct impartial and student-focused career guidance interviews that support informed and realistic decision-making
* Support profile building for competitive university applications and scholarship opportunities
* Guide students through university application platforms including UCAS, CommonApp, Studielink, OUAC, and similar systems
* Manage administrative requirements for university admissions including entrance examinations such as SAT, UCAT, LNAT, BMAT, and IELTS
* Monitor student academic progress using systems such as ALPS and align progress with career aspirations
* Organise careers fairs, Careers Week, options evenings, workshops, parent meetings, and university guidance events
* Build strong relationships with alumni, universities, parents, and external agencies to expand student opportunities

Ideal Profile

* Bachelor’s Degree in Education or any related field
* Minimum 2 years of experience in the same role
* Strong knowledge of careers guidance, university admissions, and student preparation programmes
* Excellent organisational skills with strong ability to manage multiple deadlines and timelines
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills with students, parents, and staff
* High level of integrity, professionalism, and student confidentiality management
* Competent IT skills with experience using digital student guidance platforms
* Previous experience working with students where English is not their first language
* Strong appreciation of cultural diversity and inclusive education support
* Positive, flexible, and solution-focused attitude toward work and student success
