The Career Guidance Counsellor supports students in identifying educational pathways, career interests, and long-term professional goals. This role bridges academic learning with future employment opportunities by guiding students through university applications, career assessments, work placements, and employment readiness. The position plays an important part in student wellbeing, progression planning, and strengthening connections between the school and external education providers.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide one-to-one and group career counselling sessions for students across different academic levels
* Help students identify educational requirements and create suitable academic and career development plans
* Conduct workshops on career management, university planning, and decision-making strategies
* Use assessment tools to evaluate student interests, values, aptitudes, and lifestyle preferences
* Support students with CV writing, career portfolios, interview preparation, and employment search strategies
* Build strong relationships with local and international universities, colleges, and educational institutions
* Coordinate student access to university support programs, scholarships, and admissions opportunities
* Provide current labour market insights and employment trends to support realistic career decisions
* Assist students with internships, work experience placements, and employer engagement opportunities
* Support students with disabilities, language barriers, or other special educational needs affecting career progression
* Maintain student records, reports, and administrative documentation accurately
* Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external agencies to support student success
Ideal Profile
* Post-secondary qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, Education, or a related discipline
* Additional certificate, diploma, or degree in career development is highly preferred
* Strong understanding of student counselling, career planning, and university admissions processes
* Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
* Strong listening skills with patience, empathy, and a non-judgmental approach
* Ability to motivate, inspire, and guide students from diverse backgrounds
* Excellent organizational and planning abilities
