Role Context
The Careers and University Guidance Counsellor plays a key role in preparing students for life beyond school by supporting academic choices, university admissions, scholarship pathways, and career readiness. This position helps students build confidence in decision-making while strengthening school partnerships with universities, alumni, and families to ensure successful post-secondary outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
* Support students in personal, academic, and career development through structured counselling and future planning
* Guide students on university selection, career pathways, subject choices, and portfolio development from early secondary years
* Track student progress and provide tailored support to help achieve academic and career goals
* Assist students with local and international university applications, personal statements, and recommendation letters
* Ensure students submit at least one post-secondary application and receive full administrative support during the process
* Organise career fairs, university guidance events, workshops, and admissions sessions for students and parents
* Build strong relationships with universities, local institutions, and external partners to create admissions and internship opportunities
* Support gifted and talented students and students with additional learning needs through specialised pathways and scholarship guidance
* Maintain strong alumni relationships and track graduate pathways for future engagement and mentoring
* Participate in school duties, extracurricular activities, and continuous professional development programmes
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s Degree in any subject with required Continuous Professional Development compliance
* Previous experience as a teacher or educator is highly valuable
* Minimum 2 years of experience in school counselling or professional counselling roles
* Appropriate licence to carry out student counselling responsibilities
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills with students, parents, and staff
* Excellent organisational and administrative skills for application management and event planning
* Strong commitment to helping students achieve academic and personal success
* Ability to inspire trust, confidence, and respect among students and families
* High emotional resilience and energy to manage diverse counselling situations
* Strong professionalism with strict confidentiality and safeguarding awareness
