The Deputy Head of Mathematics - Secondary Education supports the Head of Department in leading curriculum excellence across key stages while ensuring strong student outcomes and high-quality teaching standards. This position combines strategic planning, teacher development, and operational management to strengthen mathematics learning and academic performance across the school.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead curriculum development and resource planning for assigned key stages within Mathematics
* Review and adapt schemes of work to align with curriculum standards and modern teaching practices
* Support the Head of Department in improving teaching, learning, and assessment outcomes
* Ensure students are effectively prepared for internal assessments, IGCSE, and A Level examinations
* Track student progress and implement intervention plans for underperforming learners
* Conduct lesson observations and departmental reviews to maintain teaching standards
* Organise enrichment activities and academic events to increase student engagement
* Maintain consistency in assessments, homework standards, and departmental processes
* Support staff recruitment, induction, professional development, and performance management
* Deputise for the Head of Department when required and contribute to whole-school initiatives
* Promote a safe, positive, and high-achieving learning environment across the department
Ideal Profile
* BA Degree in Mathematics with Postgraduate Certificate in Education
* Minimum 6 years of teaching experience within secondary Mathematics education
* Previous leadership experience within a Mathematics department is strongly preferred
* Experience supporting students where Mathematics is not their first language
* Strong commitment to academic excellence and whole-child education
* Professional attitude with high standards of safeguarding and student well-being
* Recent involvement in extracurricular activities and wider school life
* Valid enhanced DBS check or police clearance required
