Role Context
The English Teacher - American Curriculum will guide students in developing advanced reading, writing, speaking and analytical
Key Responsibilities
* Plan and deliver English lessons aligned with the American curriculum and academy standards.
* Develop students\' reading comprehension, written expression, vocabulary and oral communication.
* Teach literary and informational texts from varied genres, periods and cultural perspectives.
* Guide students in analysing themes, structure, language, evidence and authorial intent.
* Strengthen narrative, argumentative, analytical and research-based writing skills.
* Teach grammar and language conventions within meaningful reading and writing contexts.
* Build coherent units with clear learning objectives, success criteria and progression.
* Design lessons that encourage discussion, inquiry, creativity and independent interpretation.
* Adapt content, resources and teaching methods for learners with different attainment levels.
* Provide appropriate intervention for students requiring additional literacy support.
* Create extension opportunities for learners ready for greater academic challenge.
* Use formative assessment to identify understanding during each stage of learning.
* Develop summative assessments that accurately measure curriculum knowledge and application.
* Provide detailed feedback that helps students improve clarity, accuracy and analytical depth.
* Analyse achievement data and use findings to refine future instruction.
* Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessment results and student progress.
* Integrate educational technology into research, reading, writing and presentation activities.
* Promote responsible use of sources, academic integrity and effective referencing practices.

* Apply consistent behaviour management strategies that protect learning time.
* Encourage students to express ideas confidently and respond thoughtfully to different viewpoints.
* Communicate progress, achievements and development needs clearly to parents.
* Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum mapping, moderation and resource development.
* Participate in faculty meetings, professional learning and academy improvement programmes.
* Support literary events, student publications, enrichment activities and wider school initiatives.

* Carry out additional academic and supervisory responsibilities assigned by school leadership.
Ideal Profile
* Recognised bachelor\'s degree relevant to English, literature or education.
* Valid professional teaching qualification.
* Demonstrable experience teaching English in a school environment.
* Strong knowledge of language arts, literacy development and literary analysis.
* Experience within an American curriculum or international school is preferred.
* Excellent command of written and spoken English.
* Ability to inspire students and foster a genuine love of learning.
* Strong lesson planning, assessment and classroom management capabilities.
* Confidence teaching students with varied academic and language needs.
* Ability to use data and assessment evidence to improve learning outcomes.
* Creative approach to literature, writing and classroom discussion.
