Role Context
The High School Mathematics Teacher - Maternity Cover will assume responsibility for established classes
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver interactive High School Mathematics lessons aligned with academy curriculum standards.
* Maintain continuity in curriculum coverage throughout the maternity cover period.
* Follow established schemes of work, pacing expectations and departmental procedures.
* Teach mathematical concepts through clear explanations, worked examples and practical application.
* Develop students\' numerical reasoning, analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
* Use inquiry-based learning to encourage investigation, questioning and mathematical discovery.
* Design hands-on activities that make abstract concepts accessible and relevant.
* Prepare lesson plans with clear objectives, success criteria and measurable outcomes.
* Differentiate instruction for students with varied attainment levels and learning needs.
* Provide additional support for learners requiring targeted intervention.
* Extend high-achieving students through challenging applications and deeper mathematical inquiry.
* Use formative assessment to check understanding during lessons.
* Administer summative assessments in line with departmental and academy expectations.
* Review student work and provide accurate, constructive and timely feedback.
* Analyse performance data to identify learning gaps and adjust instruction.
* Maintain reliable records of attendance, assessment results and student progress.
* Create an inclusive classroom culture that encourages curiosity, resilience and exploration.
* Apply consistent classroom management and behaviour expectations.
* Integrate educational technology, graphing tools and digital learning platforms where appropriate.
* Encourage students to explain mathematical reasoning and justify solutions.
* Collaborate with Mathematics colleagues on planning, moderation and resource sharing.
* Communicate clearly with permanent staff regarding curriculum progress and student needs.
* Participate in parent-teacher conferences and provide updates on student achievement.
* Build productive relationships with students, parents and colleagues.
* Attend relevant departmental meetings, briefings and professional learning sessions.
* Support academy activities, supervision duties and student enrichment where required.
* Follow safeguarding, wellbeing and professional conduct requirements.
* Complete additional responsibilities assigned by academy leadership.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor of Education with a Mathematics specialism, or a relevant bachelor\'s degree with PGCE, PGDE or an equivalent teaching qualification.
* Proven experience teaching Mathematics at high school level.
* Experience in an American curriculum or International Baccalaureate school is preferred.
* Strong subject knowledge across relevant secondary Mathematics topics.
* Understanding of inquiry-based and hands-on Mathematics education.
* Ability to enter an established teaching programme and maintain curriculum continuity.
* Strong lesson planning, assessment and classroom management capabilities.
* Ability to differentiate teaching for students with diverse academic needs.
* Confident use of student performance data to guide instruction.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Collaborative approach to departmental planning and school responsibilities.
* Ability to develop strong relationships with students, parents and colleagues.
* Commitment to inclusive education and positive student outcomes.
* Strong desire to improve professional practice continuously.
* Availability to begin the maternity cover assignment from October 31, 2026.
