The High School Mathematics Teacher - Maternity Cover will take responsibility for established classes during
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver engaging High School Mathematics lessons according to approved curriculum standards.
* Continue established units of work without disrupting academic pacing or student progress.
* Teach mathematical concepts through clear explanations, practical examples and structured investigation.
* Strengthen numerical fluency, logical reasoning and multi-step problem-solving capability.
* Use inquiry-based teaching to encourage students to explore patterns, test ideas and justify conclusions.
* Incorporate hands-on activities and real-world applications into suitable Mathematics topics.
* Prepare lessons with defined objectives, success criteria and measurable learning outcomes.
* Differentiate instruction for students with varied attainment levels and educational requirements.
* Provide focused support to learners experiencing gaps in mathematical understanding.
* Design extension activities for students ready to undertake more complex challenges.
* Use questioning, discussion and collaborative tasks to assess understanding during lessons.
* Prepare and administer formative and summative assessments.
* Mark student work accurately and provide practical feedback for improvement.
* Analyse achievement data to identify misconceptions and intervention priorities.
* Maintain complete records of attendance, assessment outcomes and academic progress.
* Preserve established classroom routines and departmental expectations.
* Create an inclusive environment that promotes curiosity, resilience and responsible participation.
* Apply consistent behaviour management procedures that support productive learning.
* Use graphing tools, digital platforms and educational technology where appropriate.
* Encourage students to communicate mathematical reasoning clearly in written and verbal form.
* Work closely with Mathematics colleagues on planning, moderation and shared resources.
* Provide clear handover information regarding curriculum coverage and student development.
* Participate in parent-teacher conferences and discuss progress professionally with families.
* Attend relevant faculty meetings, briefings and professional learning activities.
* Contribute to student enrichment, supervision and wider academy programmes when required.
* Follow safeguarding, wellbeing and professional conduct procedures.
* Complete other temporary teaching duties assigned by academy leadership.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor of Education with a Mathematics specialism, or a relevant degree supported by a PGCE, PGDE or equivalent teaching qualification.
* Proven experience teaching Mathematics at high school level.
* Experience within an American curriculum or International Baccalaureate school is preferred.
* Strong knowledge of secondary Mathematics curriculum content and progression.
* Understanding of inquiry-based and practical Mathematics instruction.
* Ability to assume responsibility for established classes and maintain curriculum continuity.
* Skilled in lesson planning, assessment and classroom management.
* Capable of differentiating instruction for diverse academic needs.
* Confident using assessment data to plan support and extension.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Collaborative approach to departmental planning and professional responsibilities.
