Role Context
The High School Spanish Teacher - Maternity Cover will assume responsibility for established
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver interactive High School Spanish lessons aligned with academy curriculum standards.
* Maintain continuity in curriculum content throughout the maternity cover period.
* Follow established schemes of work, pacing expectations and departmental procedures.
* Develop students\' listening, speaking, reading and writing proficiency.
* Teach vocabulary, grammar and sentence structures through meaningful communication.
* Use Spanish consistently to build learner confidence and practical language fluency.
* Introduce literature, media, traditions and cultural perspectives from Spanish-speaking communities.
* Apply inquiry-based learning to encourage questioning, interpretation and independent discovery.
* Design interactive activities such as conversations, presentations, role-play and collaborative projects.
* Prepare lessons with clear objectives, success criteria and measurable outcomes.
* Differentiate instruction for students with varied language abilities and learning needs.
* Provide targeted support for learners requiring additional language development.
* Extend advanced students through challenging communication and analytical tasks.
* Use formative assessment to monitor understanding and language acquisition.
* Administer summative assessments in accordance with departmental expectations.
* Review oral and written work and provide constructive, timely feedback.
* Analyse student performance data to identify gaps and adjust teaching strategies.
* Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessment outcomes and student progress.
* Establish an inclusive classroom culture that encourages participation and exploration.
* Apply consistent classroom management and behaviour expectations.
* Integrate educational technology, audiovisual resources and digital language platforms.
* Encourage accurate pronunciation, effective communication and independent language practice.
* Collaborate with Spanish and world-language colleagues on planning and resource development.
* Communicate curriculum progress and student needs to permanent teaching staff.
* Participate in parent-teacher conferences and provide clear progress updates.
* Build positive relationships with students, parents and colleagues.
* Attend relevant departmental meetings, briefings and professional learning sessions.
* Support school events, supervision duties and enrichment activities when required.
* Follow safeguarding, wellbeing and professional conduct requirements.
* Complete additional responsibilities assigned by academy leadership.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor of Education with a Spanish specialism, or a relevant bachelor\'s degree with PGCE, PGDE or an equivalent teaching qualification.
* Proven experience teaching Spanish at high school level.
* Experience in an American curriculum or International Baccalaureate school is preferred.
* Strong command of spoken and written Spanish.
* Sound knowledge of second-language acquisition and effective language teaching methods.
* Understanding of inquiry-based and interactive Spanish education.
* Ability to enter an established programme and maintain curriculum continuity.
* Strong lesson planning, assessment and classroom management capabilities.
* Ability to differentiate teaching for students with diverse language abilities.
* Confidence using achievement data to guide instruction and intervention.
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
* Ability to build productive relationships with students, parents and colleagues.
* Commitment to inclusive education and positive student outcomes.
* Strong desire to improve professional practice continuously.
* Availability to begin the maternity cover assignment on October 15, 2026.
