Role Context
The Islamic Studies Coordinator - Academic Leadership will guide the delivery and development of Islamic A and Islamic B across the secondary phase. The role combines classroom expertise with curriculum coordination, teacher support, progress monitoring and departmental leadership to improve student achievement and maintain consistent academic standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Coordinate the delivery of Islamic A and Islamic B across the secondary phase.
* Establish clear departmental priorities aligned with school expectations and curriculum requirements.
* Support teachers in planning engaging, structured and age-appropriate Islamic Studies lessons.
* Promote consistent teaching standards across classes and year groups.
* Review schemes of work, lesson plans, assessments and teaching resources.
* Ensure curriculum content reflects approved Islamic Studies requirements.
* Monitor student attainment, progress and participation across the department.
* Analyse assessment evidence to identify learning gaps and improvement priorities.
* Guide teachers in adapting instruction for students with different abilities and learning needs.
* Support the development of effective assessment, feedback and intervention practices.
* Share strong teaching methods and model exemplary classroom practice.
* Coach team members and encourage continuous professional development.
* Coordinate departmental meetings, planning sessions and curriculum reviews.
* Maintain accurate records of curriculum coverage, assessment outcomes and departmental actions.
* Promote creative teaching approaches inside and outside the classroom.
* Encourage the effective use of information technology and digital learning resources.
* Build positive relationships with students and support their academic and personal development.
* Communicate professionally with parents regarding student progress and departmental matters.
* Work closely with school leaders and other academic departments.
* Contribute to teacher performance reviews and departmental improvement planning.
* Support recruitment, induction and mentoring activities when required.
* Promote Islamic values, cultural awareness and respectful behaviour throughout the school.
* Contribute to assemblies, religious events, extracurricular programmes and wider school life.
* Ensure departmental practice follows school policies, safeguarding procedures and professional standards.
* Support compliance with Ministry of Education expectations and relevant licensing requirements.
* Undertake additional teaching, leadership and organisational duties assigned by school management.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor of Arts in Islamic Studies or an equivalent recognised degree.
* Qualified teacher certification.
* Native Arabic speaker.
* Minimum 3 years of experience teaching at secondary level.
* Effective leadership and management experience within an academic department.
* Strong knowledge of Islamic A and Islamic B curriculum delivery.
* Very good written and spoken English.
* Demonstrated commitment to high-quality teaching and student learning.
* Ability to guide teachers and establish consistent departmental standards.
* Strong classroom management and student engagement capabilities.
* Creative and enthusiastic approach to teaching and curriculum development.
* Excellent interpersonal and professional communication skills.
* Ability to build productive relationships with students, parents and colleagues.
* Strong information technology and educational technology skills.

* Commitment to continuous professional improvement.
* MOE TLS licence is preferred but not essential.
