Role Context

The Phase Leader - Primary plays a strategic role in strengthening curriculum delivery, academic performance, and student wellbeing across the primary phase. This position supports outstanding teaching standards, targeted student interventions, and strong department collaboration while contributing to school improvement, staff mentoring, and long-term academic success.

Key Responsibilities

* Develop and implement department and phase policies aligned with the school’s vision, academic standards, and learning goals
* Establish, monitor, and evaluate short, medium, and long-term development plans for the primary phase
* Use student performance data to identify underachieving learners and implement effective intervention programmes
* Ensure schemes of work are current, inclusive, and suitable for SEN, POD, AG and T, and EAL students
* Maintain curriculum continuity, progression, and strong assessment practices across all year groups
* Set clear expectations for staff regarding teaching quality, student outcomes, and behaviour standards
* Evaluate teaching and learning standards and lead improvement strategies for stronger academic results
* Lead department meetings focused on raising standards in student achievement and classroom practice
* Manage staff performance, mentoring, and support for Early Career Teachers within the phase
* Oversee department resources, internal cover, parent communication, reports, parent teacher conferences, and examination support

Ideal Profile

* Bachelor of Education Degree or equivalent degree with PGCE or another recognised teaching qualification
* Minimum 6 years of teaching experience within the UK curriculum
* Minimum 2 years of experience as a middle leader, preferably Head of Year experience
* Strong experience teaching British Curriculum including I/GCSE and I/A Level
* Previous leadership experience is highly desirable
* Excellent communication and classroom leadership skills
* Experience teaching students where English is not their first language
* Passion for education and commitment to educating the whole child
* High level of professionalism with strong safeguarding awareness
* Clean enhanced police clearance or Disclosure and Barring Services check
