The Primary School Librarian plays an important role in supporting literacy development, research skills, and student engagement through an organized and inspiring library environment. This position helps students build strong reading habits, supports teachers with curriculum resources, and ensures effective management of both physical and digital learning materials.
Key Responsibilities
* Organize, maintain, and manage the primary school library collection including books, digital resources, and multimedia
* Ensure cataloguing, classification, and circulation systems remain accurate and up to date
* Monitor inventory, conduct regular audits, and recommend new acquisitions aligned with CBSE curriculum needs
* Maintain a welcoming, safe, and engaging library environment for students and staff
* Collaborate with teachers to support curriculum delivery through relevant library resources
* Plan and deliver library sessions that strengthen research skills and information literacy
* Support project-based learning and reading programmes aligned with academic standards
* Encourage reading habits through storytelling sessions, book talks, reading challenges, and literary events
* Guide students in selecting age-appropriate and ability-based reading materials
* Introduce students to digital literacy, responsible research practices, and online learning platforms
* Maintain records of circulation, student usage, and library resource updates
* Manage library budgets and ensure compliance with school and KHDA guidelines
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Information Science, or related field
* Master’s degree preferred
* Minimum 2 to 3 years of experience as a librarian, preferably in a CBSE or similar school curriculum
* Strong familiarity with library management systems and digital cataloguing tools
* Knowledge of KHDA standards is an advantage
* Strong communication and organisational skills
* Passion for children’s literature and literacy development
