Role Context
The PYP Primary Teacher plays a key role in shaping early learning experiences by delivering engaging, student-centered education aligned with the IB philosophy and Learner Profile values. This role supports academic progress, personal development, and emotional wellbeing while encouraging students to become reflective, caring, and internationally minded learners. The teacher contributes to curriculum innovation and works closely with colleagues to maintain high standards across the primary department.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver high-quality teaching aligned with the IB Primary Years Programme framework and school learning standards
* Create inquiry-based learning experiences that promote curiosity, creativity, and independent thinking
* Plan differentiated lessons that support diverse student needs and learning styles
* Assess, record, and monitor student progress to ensure strong academic development and achievement
* Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment that promotes wellbeing and engagement
* Build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues to support learning success
* Apply strong understanding of Approaches to Teaching and learning within the IB framework
* Contribute to curriculum planning, assessment development, and departmental improvement initiatives
* Participate actively in school events, extracurricular activities, and wider community programmes
* Support the values of the IB Learner Profile and promote global citizenship across the school community
* Maintain safeguarding standards and uphold all GEMS Education policies and expectations
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor of Education degree or an initial degree with PGCE, PGDE, or equivalent teaching qualification in Primary Education
* Minimum 3 years of Primary teaching experience, ideally within an IB curriculum school
* Experience teaching the IB Primary Years Programme is preferred but not mandatory
* Strong understanding of IB PYP philosophy and Approaches to Teaching is highly desirable
* Outstanding classroom practice with a strong record of helping students succeed
* Passion for working within a culturally diverse and inclusive international school environment
* Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
* Commitment to continuous professional development and teaching excellence
* Available to join from August 2026
