Role Context
The Social Worker plays a key role in strengthening student wellbeing by supporting emotional, behavioural, and social development across the school community. This position works closely with students, parents, teachers, and external agencies to create a safe and supportive learning environment while helping students overcome challenges that may affect their academic journey.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide non-therapeutic support to students facing personal, emotional, social, and behavioural challenges
* Act as a link between the school, students, families, and external community service providers
* Collaborate with the wider Pastoral Services Team to assess student needs and provide effective support plans
* Conduct interviews and assessments to understand family and student circumstances and identify suitable interventions
* Connect students and families with appropriate community resources including healthcare, legal, and social services
* Prepare assemblies and awareness sessions focused on student wellbeing and wider school support needs
* Provide guidance, support, and information to students and families to strengthen resilience and confidence
* Maintain accurate case records, documentation, reports, and referral processes where required
* Lead group counselling sessions for academic, behavioural, and social development support
* Monitor at-risk students and coordinate referrals for external interventions in consultation with parents
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor of Science or Education in Social Work
* Appropriate licence to carry out student counselling responsibilities
* Minimum 1 year of experience in school counselling or professional counselling roles
* Strong interpersonal skills with both students and parents
* Excellent organisational and case management abilities
* Strong commitment to helping others and supporting student wellbeing
* Ability to inspire trust, confidence, and positive relationships across the school community
* Strong emotional resilience and professional judgement when handling sensitive situations
* Awareness of cultural influences regarding adolescent social development
* High level of professionalism with strong safeguarding and confidentiality awareness
