Role Context
The Year 6 Foundation Subjects Teacher plays a vital role in shaping upper primary learning by combining strong classroom teaching with curriculum leadership across key foundation subjects. This position ensures students receive a rich, engaging, and well-structured educational experience while supporting academic progress, creativity, and independent learning. The role also contributes to school-wide improvement by mentoring colleagues and strengthening consistency across KS2 teaching standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the planning, delivery, and evaluation of Foundation Subjects within Year 6 including Geography, History, Art, DT, Computing, and Music where applicable
* Ensure curriculum progression, challenge, and alignment with whole-school priorities and learning standards
* Deliver high-quality, engaging lessons that meet the needs of all learners across KS2
* Use assessment data effectively to monitor student progress, raise attainment, and provide timely intervention
* Model excellent classroom practice and share effective teaching strategies across the phase
* Work closely with KS2 leadership to strengthen cross-curricular learning and enrichment opportunities
* Support and mentor colleagues to maintain consistency in teaching quality and classroom expectations
* Contribute to curriculum development meetings and whole-school academic improvement initiatives
* Promote creativity, critical thinking, and independent learning across foundation subjects
* Lead or support enrichment activities, school events, educational trips, and transition programmes
* Maintain high standards for behaviour, achievement, safeguarding, and student wellbeing
Ideal Profile
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with recognized teaching credentials
* Strong KS2 teaching experience, ideally within Year 5 or Year 6
* Proven record of strong pupil progress and excellent academic outcomes
* Experience teaching and leading Foundation Subjects within a primary curriculum setting
* Excellent communication, leadership, and teamwork skills
* Strong classroom management and curriculum planning abilities
* Previous curriculum or subject leadership experience is highly desirable
* Experience within an international or UK curriculum school is an advantage
* Experience preparing students for successful transition to secondary education is preferred
