What Does a General Manager Do at Azizi Energy Division?
In this role, the General Manager will oversee strategic and operational aspects of a hydroelectric power plant initiative, ensuring alignment with the company’s growth objectives. This includes project development, regulatory compliance, financial oversight, and operational excellence—while reporting to Azizi’s executive board.
What Are the Key Responsibilities?
- Act as a strategic advisor to the board, offering expert guidance on hydroelectric operations and long-term energy investments
- Work closely with the Chief of Staff and senior executives to integrate the power plant within Azizi’s broader business goals
- Oversee full lifecycle plant management—from development and construction to commissioning and daily operations
- Ensure high plant performance with emphasis on efficiency, reliability, safety, and environmental sustainability
- Lead compliance efforts with local and international energy, safety, and environmental regulations
- Develop cost-effective operational strategies to enhance ROI and manage plant budgeting and resourcing
- Build and lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for technical, financial, and regulatory functions
- Establish strong working relationships with regional stakeholders, authorities, and regulatory bodies
- Travel regularly to Afghanistan for site supervision, strategic meetings, and project monitoring
What Skills and Experience Are Required?
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering (Master’s preferred)
Experience:
- Minimum 10 years of senior leadership in the energy sector, with at least 5 years in hydroelectric plant operations
- Proven track record of managing large infrastructure or renewable energy projects across emerging markets
- Experience in plant commissioning, turbine technology, dam operations, grid integration, and environmental compliance
Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of hydroelectric systems and power generation technologies
- Expertise in energy project financing, cost control, and profitability optimization
