Role Context
The Design
Manager will operate within the Planning and Design Management function, supporting senior leadership in controlling multidisciplinary design across assigned infrastructure packages. The position will connect consultants, engineering disciplines, stakeholders, project teams, and approval authorities so that design information progresses through each development stage in a coordinated and controlled manner. Strong design governance will help reduce clashes, late decisions, incomplete submissions, and technical issues that could otherwise affect procurement or construction.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage and coordinate multidisciplinary design activities across assigned projects, packages, and infrastructure assets.
* Support the Director of Infrastructure Planning and Design, Senior Design Manager, and other senior leadership with day-to-day design delivery.
* Coordinate design consultants and technical disciplines to achieve integrated and technically compliant outputs.
* Establish clear design priorities aligned with project briefs, standards, budgets, schedules, and approval requirements.
* Monitor design development across relevant project stages and highlight emerging delivery constraints.
* Review consultant submissions for quality, completeness, coordination, and compliance before progressing them for approval.
* Check that technical deliverables respond fully to project requirements and agreed design criteria.
* Coordinate comments from multidisciplinary reviewers and ensure consolidated feedback is communicated clearly to consultants.
* Monitor closure of design review comments and outstanding technical actions.
* Support resolution of clashes and inconsistencies between engineering disciplines.
* Coordinate technical queries requiring input from several consultants or project teams.
* Identify constructability concerns during design development and support practical resolution.
* Escalate significant design issues where delayed decisions could affect downstream activities.
* Maintain design trackers covering submissions, reviews, comments, approvals, and outstanding actions.
* Manage design action logs and ensure responsibilities and target dates remain clear.
* Maintain registers covering technical decisions, design risks, assumptions, constraints, and dependencies.
* Support approval workflows and ensure submissions follow established governance procedures.
* Maintain organized technical records that provide traceability of important design decisions.
* Apply standardized design management templates, procedures, tools, and reporting methods across assigned scopes.
* Support consistency in how different consultants report and manage their design activities.
* Monitor design progress against approved schedules, stage gates, and milestone requirements.

* Coordinate interfaces between civil, structural, utilities, transportation, architectural, MEP, landscape, and specialist disciplines where applicable.

* Identify gaps or overlaps in design responsibilities before they develop into scope disputes or technical conflicts.
* Support multidisciplinary coordination meetings and design workshops.
