We’re building a world powered by solar energy, running on batteries and transported by electric vehicles. Explore the most recent impact of our products, people and supply chain. |
Tesla Manufacturing Engineers have the important role of designing the machine that builds the machine. We work with the cross-functional teams (design, quality, production, sustaining, and supply chain) throughout the entire lifecycle of a product (from initial design through prototype development and into full production) to develop high quality and efficient manufacturing equipment and processes that will produce power electronics, thermal systems and customer facing industrial battery storage systems. The Staff Manufacturing Engineer, Body in White, will lead a team of engineers and work closely with cross functional stakeholders to maintain existing equipment, processes, and testers.
What You'll Do
Develop manufacturing equipment and processes from pilot prototypes to full scale ramp
Determine and procure equipment that is necessary for all manufacturing processes used to build the product
Work with equipment integrators to design and manufacture equipment and fixtures for medium to high-volume production
Manage suppliers during specification, design, buyoff and installation of manufacturing equipment
Characterize and validate new equipment and fixtures for introduction to the production floor
Determine layout of production workstations for product flow, ergonomics, and efficiency
Perform process analysis, DOE (design of experiments), PFMEA, line balancing activities, and capacity modeling/simulation
Provide DFM (design for manufacturability) input to design team for process and yield improvements
Create detailed manufacturing instructions to train technicians and line operators on new processes and equipment
What You'll Bring
Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical or Mechatronic Engineering, or equivalent experience
Experience leading a team of engineers in a manufacturing setting and 5+ years working in a body in white manufacturing environment
Experience with MIG & spot welding, bolting, and riveting joints
Experience with robot programming, backup, and restoration for Fanuc
Experience with PLC programming (Siemens), troubleshooting, and configuration
Experience in developing electrical schematics is a plus
Experience creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment
Experience introducing new products and new processes from a prototype environment to a production environment
Experience providing design for manufacturability and automation with experience designing production line layouts in AutoCAD
Proficiency designing mechanical equipment, fixturing, and tooling in CAD (SolidWorks or CATIA)
