Role Context
The Corporate Finance Expert will apply practical financial management experience to the creation and evaluation of realistic finance scenarios used to assess AI-generated analysis. The role requires strong judgement across forecasting, budget ownership, financial modeling, reconciliations, management reporting, and variance investigation.
Rather than relying on academic finance exercises, the project requires scenarios that reflect the ambiguity, trade-offs, incomplete information, and numerical complexity found in real corporate environments. The expert will define accurate solutions, document assumptions, and establish detailed grading criteria that measure both mathematical correctness and the quality of financial reasoning.
Key Responsibilities
* Create realistic corporate finance evaluation tasks covering budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and variance analysis.
* Develop supporting financial artifacts such as budgets, forecast models, reconciliations, P&L schedules, and management reports.
* Build scenarios that reflect real operational and financial decision-making rather than simplified textbook examples.
* Prepare accurate solutions supported by transparent assumptions and defensible financial logic.
* Develop detailed grading rubrics with 35 or more assessment points covering numerical accuracy, methodology, reasoning, and analytical quality.
* Evaluate financial outputs for calculation errors, incorrect assumptions, inconsistent methodology, and weak interpretation.
* Design budgeting scenarios involving departmental spending, cost control, revenue expectations, and resource allocation.
* Build forecasting exercises that incorporate historical performance, assumptions, business drivers, and scenario changes.
* Create financial models that support planning, performance evaluation, and decision-making.
* Perform and interpret variance analysis across actuals, budgets, and forecasts.
* Assess P&L performance and identify the operational or financial drivers behind material movements.
* Incorporate reconciliation and close-related scenarios where balances, transactions, or reporting outputs require validation.
* Translate complex financial datasets into concise conclusions, risks, and actionable recommendations.
* Communicate financial findings and assumptions clearly for review by project teams.
* Maintain precision and consistency across output-based assignments while meeting weekly submission expectations.
Ideal Profile
Candidates should ideally bring at least five years of corporate finance experience with responsibility for a P&L, major departmental budget, or significant financial planning process.
Hands-on experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, month-end or quarter-end close, reconciliations, and variance analysis is strongly preferred.
The role is best suited to professionals who can move beyond reporting numbers and explain what is driving financial performance, why variances occurred, and what actions management should consider next.
Advanced financial modeling ability and excellent numerical accuracy are essential. Candidates should also be confident working with detailed financial data, identifying inconsistencies, testing assumptions, and converting analysis into clear business recommendations.
Corporate finance experience is preferred over a purely accounting-focused background. Professional credentials such as CPA, CFA, FMVA, or an MBA would be advantageous but are not mandatory.
