Role Context
The Barista - Coffee and Food Service will support tMart’s customer experience by preparing coffee, beverages, and food items according to approved recipes and quality standards. The role contributes to fast order preparation, accurate product handling, clean workstations, proper stock rotation, and reliable availability of food and drink items. By following recipe cards, hygiene checks, FIFO practices, and storage requirements, the position helps ensure every order is fresh, consistent, and ready for delivery.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare coffee, drinks, and food items according to recipe specifications, Barista Workbook standards, food skills guidance, and Everyday Coffee requirements.
* Follow recipe cards accurately to ensure every beverage and food item is prepared with consistent taste, presentation, temperature, and quality.
* Recognize ingredients, understand recipe requirements, and prepare the full menu range correctly.
* Maintain speed and quality of service during order preparation while meeting operational standards.
* Work efficiently to prepare customer orders and ensure every item is completed according to expected quality.
* Label and store products correctly in suitable conditions to protect freshness, safety, and shelf life.
* Apply FIFO practices by displaying and using older stock first while rotating food and drink products properly.
* Check product dates and deal correctly with expired or out-of-date items according to store procedures.
* Maintain high cleanliness standards across workstations, fridges, freezers, storage areas, and preparation zones.
* Carry out temperature checks, hygiene checks, and cleaning routines as required by food safety standards.
* Check and receive deliveries, ensuring products are handled, stored, and recorded correctly.
* Organize displays according to planograms, range requirements, and standards manuals.
* Support 100 percent product availability by monitoring stock levels and reporting gaps or replenishment needs.
* Prepare drinks and food to approved standards while recording temperatures and following quality control requirements.
* Coordinate with store teams to keep preparation areas organized, clean, stocked, and ready for peak demand.
* Follow food hygiene, safety, product handling, storage, and service procedures at all times.
Ideal Profile
* Minimum 2 years of experience working as a barista in a cafe, restaurant, coffee shop, grocery store, or food service environment.
* Good knowledge of coffee preparation, beverage recipes, food handling, ingredient recognition, and service quality.
* Able to follow recipe cards, standard manuals, planograms, hygiene procedures, and product storage instructions accurately.
* Strong attention to detail when preparing drinks, checking dates, labeling items, rotating stock, and maintaining cleanliness.
