Role Context
The Specialist - Fresh Food Quality will help Amazon maintain consistent standards for fresh and perishable products throughout receiving, storage, picking, packing, and dispatch operations. The role will inspect products at Amazon facilities and vendor sites, document quality failures, and ensure unsuitable items are rejected before reaching customers.
Working with instock managers, vendor managers, store operations, fulfillment partners, suppliers, and frontline associates, the specialist will identify recurring defects and introduce practical improvements. Accurate reporting and disciplined follow-up will help reduce spoilage, damage, expiry, customer complaints, and unnecessary purchasing costs.
Key Responsibilities
* Inspect meat, seafood, fruit, vegetables, eggs, and other perishable products during inbound receiving.
* Conduct quality checks at Amazon stores, grocery hubs, fulfillment locations, and approved vendor sites.
* Compare received products with Amazon quality specifications, food-safety requirements, and agreed supplier standards.
* Reject damaged, spoiled, defective, contaminated, incorrectly handled, or non-compliant products.
* Ensure rejected products are separated and returned to the appropriate vendor.
* Record rejected items by product, supplier, quantity, defect type, and inspection location.
* Maintain clear evidence and documentation for quality failures, supplier disputes, and corrective actions.
* Audit fresh-product quality during picking and packing activities performed by operational associates.
* Check that employees handle perishable items carefully and follow approved standard operating procedures.
* Monitor packaging materials and methods to ensure products remain protected throughout fulfillment and delivery.
* Identify packaging failures that could cause bruising, leakage, contamination, temperature exposure, or product damage.
* Conduct daily bin inspections to confirm cleanliness, product condition, rotation, labeling, and storage compliance.
* Identify expired, short-dated, damaged, or incorrectly stored products during bin audits.
* Prepare daily and weekly quality reports for operations, commercial, and supply chain stakeholders.
* Analyze rejection, damage, expiry, and supplier-performance data to identify recurring quality problems.
* Work with vendors to improve product grading, handling, packaging, transportation, and delivery practices.
* Assist suppliers in developing corrective measures that meet Amazon\'s quality expectations.
* Train store and hub associates on fresh-product quality, packaging requirements, food-safety procedures, and operational standards.
* Reinforce correct handling practices for meat, seafood, produce, eggs, and temperature-sensitive products.
* Partner with instock managers and vendor managers to improve buying efficiency for fresh products.
* Help reduce over-ordering, poor-quality purchasing, preventable waste, and product expiry.
* Collaborate with store operations managers and fulfillment partners on quality improvement initiatives.
* Participate in stakeholder meetings and present inspection findings, supplier trends, and recommended actions.
* Identify opportunities to automate quality reporting, inspection records, and operational monitoring.
* Remain available for occasional weekend assignments while staying within the agreed working week.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor\'s degree in food science, agriculture, quality management, supply chain, business, or a related discipline.
* Practical experience in fresh-food inspection, grocery quality, food safety, produce handling, retail operations, or supplier quality.
* HACCP certification.
* PIC 3 Person In Charge certification approved by Dubai Municipality.
* Knowledge of ISO 22000 food-safety management requirements.
* Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices.
* Strong knowledge of fruit and vegetable quality specifications.
* Familiarity with Dubai\'s fresh-produce supply market, including Al Aweer Central Fruit and Vegetable Market.
* Experience inspecting meat, seafood, produce, eggs, or other perishable goods is advantageous.
* Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify subtle quality defects.
* Accurate data-entry, record-keeping, and reporting capability.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Professional Suite.
* Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
* Ability to communicate clearly with operational employees, suppliers, managers, and senior stakeholders.
* Strong interpersonal skills and confidence building collaborative supplier relationships.
* Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during operational pressure.
* Willingness to travel between stores, hubs, and vendor locations when required.
* Ability to manage several inspections, reports, and improvement actions without missing deadlines.
* Experience in a fast-paced retail, grocery, logistics, food production, or technology-led company is preferred.
