Role Context
The Junior Research Scientist - Astro-Particle Physics will support research in particle and radiation detector technologies applied to direct dark matter searches, dielectric haloscopes, gamma ray spectroscopy, lunar X-ray spectroscopy, and space science applications. The position involves laboratory work, detector simulation, equipment management, and participation in an active research group developing scientific tools for rare-event searches and non-standard radiation detection applications. The selected researcher will contribute to experimental projects while gaining exposure to international research methods, detector systems, and advanced physics applications.
Key Responsibilities
* Support experimental research in astro-particle physics and radiation detector applications.
* Work with particle and radiation detector systems, including organic scintillators, inorganic scintillators, photomultipliers, silicon photomultipliers, and silicon drift detectors.
* Contribute to research projects involving direct dark matter searches, dielectric haloscopes, gamma ray spectroscopy, and space-based scientific applications.
* Assist with the development and simulation of detectors for lunar X-ray spectroscopy and related space science projects.
* Use detector simulation tools where applicable, including GEANT4 or similar scientific simulation platforms.
* Participate in laboratory testing, detector assembly, calibration, measurement, troubleshooting, and performance evaluation.
* Support research related to rare-event searches, including axion detection and dark matter detection.
* Apply radiation detection techniques to specialized scientific and non-standard research domains.
* Contribute to data collection, analysis, documentation, and interpretation of experimental results.
* Assist with the general management of the laboratory, scientific equipment, supplies, and experimental setups.
* Work closely with faculty members, researchers, students, and technical team members within a diverse research environment.
* Prepare research notes, technical summaries, presentations, and supporting materials for academic or project use.
* Learn new experimental techniques and contribute actively to the ongoing development of the research group.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s degree in Physics is required.
* Strong interest in experimental astro-particle physics, radiation detection, particle detectors, and space science applications.
* Knowledge of particle detector design and development is preferred.
* Experience with detector simulation tools such as GEANT4 is an advantage.
* Interest in rare-event searches, including axion research, dark matter detection, or related astro-particle physics topics.
* Enthusiasm for applying radiation detection methods to new and non-standard scientific domains.
* Ability to work in a laboratory environment with detector hardware, measurement systems, and research equipment.
* Strong analytical ability with willingness to learn advanced experimental and simulation techniques.
* Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in a diverse academic research environment.
* Organized approach to laboratory documentation, equipment handling, and research support tasks.
