Post-Doctoral Associate - Applied Mathematics and Computational Science
New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is seeking a highly qualified Post-Doctoral Associate in applied mathematics and computational science to join the Division of Science. This role will support research under the guidance of Prof. Francesco Paparella as part of the Mubadala Arabian Center for Climate and Environmental Sciences (MACCESS). The successful candidate will engage in cutting-edge research in regional ocean/atmosphere/climate modeling, ecological modeling, and advanced machine learning applications in geophysical data analysis.

Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct research aligned with MACCESS’s vision, including:
- Regional ocean, atmosphere, and climate modeling
- Plankton, biogeochemistry, and ecological modeling
- Application of ML/AI techniques for feature identification, dimensionality reduction, and parameterization building in ocean/atmosphere data or models
- Investigation of double diffusion in geophysical flows
- Develop and implement computational models for scientific simulations
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary research teams across applied mathematics, physics, and engineering disciplines
- Contribute to publications in peer-reviewed journals and present research findings at conferences
- Mentor and supervise research interns or junior researchers
- Utilize NYUAD’s world-class research facilities, including an HPC cluster with ~30,000 computing cores and 34 GPU nodes
Required Skills and Experience:
Education:
- A PhD in applied mathematics, physics, engineering, or a related field
Experience:
- Strong background in applied mathematics and scientific computing
- Experience in geophysical fluid dynamics is highly desirable
- Proven ability to conduct independent research and contribute to high-impact publications
Skills:
- Proficiency in numerical modeling and computational techniques
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent scientific writing and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams
- Experience in supervising research interns or junior researchers is preferred
