Job Overview
The selected Postdoctoral Associate will work under the guidance of Dr. Safiya Khalil and contribute to a multidisciplinary project integrating chemistry, materials science, and engineering. The research aims to control the structure of COFs at multiple scales to improve performance in environmental applications such as water filtration, pollutant capture, and adsorption. The position provides professional development opportunities including mentoring, publishing, and grant writing.

Key Responsibilities

* Design and synthesize porous framework materials such as COFs for environmental applications
* Conduct advanced material characterization using PXRD, electron diffraction, spectroscopy, gas adsorption, and microscopy
* Evaluate water treatment performance of synthesized materials under lab-scale conditions
* Draft research manuscripts, review academic articles, and assist in writing funding proposals
* Supervise and mentor undergraduate and graduate researchers
* Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and contribute to innovation in sustainable water technologies

Job Requirements

* PhD in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a closely related field
* Hands-on experience in the synthesis and characterization of porous materials, particularly COFs or MOFs
* Expertise in techniques including PXRD, BET analysis, electron microscopy, and spectroscopy
* Familiarity with water treatment processes and material performance metrics
* Excellent scientific writing and verbal communication skills
* Proven track record of research productivity through publications or patents

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience using supercritical CO2 activation and gas adsorption instrumentation

* Programming knowledge (e.g., Python or MATLAB) for data analysis is a plus
