Role Context
This position supports advanced scientific discovery within the Smart Materials Lab by driving crystal structure analysis for complex materials systems. The selected researcher will play a key role in solving challenging crystallographic problems involving difficult structures, time-sensitive samples, and advanced electron diffraction refinement. The work directly contributes to breakthrough research in chemistry, physics, and materials science.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform crystal structure determination using electron diffraction and X-ray crystallography techniques
* Prepare crystal samples and independently conduct diffraction data collection and refinement processes
* Solve and refine small molecule crystal structures with high scientific accuracy
* Handle challenging structures involving twinning, disorder, structural decay, or time-dependent changes
* Support refinement of structures using electron diffraction data from specialized microscopy systems
* Contribute to structure analysis using powder diffraction, neutron diffraction, or scattering data where applicable
* Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present results at scientific conferences
* Participate actively in multidisciplinary research projects within the Smart Materials Lab
* Assist in supervising undergraduate students and PhD researchers working on related laboratory projects
Ideal Profile
* PhD in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, or a related discipline with strong crystallography focus
* Proven expertise in crystal structure solution and refinement using electron or X-ray diffraction methods
* Strong preference for candidates with advanced experience in electron diffraction
* Ability to independently manage sample preparation, data collection, and structural refinement
* Strong academic publication record in peer-reviewed scientific journals
* Excellent technical writing, communication, and collaborative research skills
