Role Context
The Postdoctoral Associate - Ingestible Devices will support translational research aimed at developing technologies that can interrogate the contents of the gastrointestinal tract and contribute to future diagnostics and therapies. Working under the supervision of Dr. Khalil Ramadi, the selected researcher will combine engineering, science, device design, fabrication, experimental methods, and data analysis to advance minimally invasive biomedical tools. The role offers significant autonomy, with responsibilities spanning research execution, project logistics, manuscript preparation, grant writing, and individualized research projects linked to clinical needs in neurologic, metabolic, and immune disorders.
Key Responsibilities
* Design and develop ingestible biomedical devices for gastrointestinal tract interrogation and translational research applications.
* Conduct experiments involving device design, fabrication, testing, validation, and performance evaluation.
* Apply engineering and scientific methods to support minimally invasive technologies for neuromodulation and biomedical sensing.
* Analyze experimental data and translate findings into research outputs, technical reports, manuscripts, and presentations.
* Write and support grant proposals linked to neuroengineering, translational medicine, biomedical devices, and clinical technology development.
* Prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication and contribute to scientific communication within the lab.
* Manage project logistics, including purchasing equipment, ordering consumables, tracking research supplies, and coordinating laboratory needs.
* Work on individualized research projects under faculty supervision during the appointment.
* Use laboratory equipment and experimental techniques relevant to device development, microfabrication, biomedical engineering, and translational research.
* Collaborate with faculty, researchers, students, and lab members across mechanical, electrical, materials, and bioengineering areas.
* Support research involving implantable microdevices, nanoparticles, electroceuticals, and neural activity modulation where relevant.
* Maintain accurate records of experiments, protocols, data files, equipment use, design iterations, and fabrication results.
* Solve technical problems independently while coordinating major research decisions with the principal investigator.
* Contribute to a productive lab environment focused on clinical translation, innovation, and responsible scientific practice.
Ideal Profile
* PhD in Engineering, Science, or a closely related discipline.
* More than 1 year of postdoctoral work experience in engineering or biomedical disciplines is preferred.
* Strong experience in device design and fabrication.
* Ability to design and execute experiments with scientific rigor and technical independence.
* Strong data analysis skills developed through PhD-level experimental research.
* Familiarity with a variety of laboratory equipment and research techniques.
* Experience in microfabrication is preferred.
* Experience with stereolithography is an advantage.
* Self-motivated researcher with strong independent problem-solving ability.
* Comfortable managing a broad research workload with growing autonomy.
* Strong interest in neuroengineering, translational medicine, biomedical devices, ingestible systems, and clinical technology innovation.
* Good communication skills and ability to work within a collaborative academic research environment.
