Role Context
The Research Assistant Fellow - Astrophysics will support research on high-energy phenomena in the Milky Way, including energetic particles, massive stars, neutron stars, and ionized gas. The position is designed for an early-career researcher seeking practical experience in astrophysical data analysis, scientific programming, academic collaboration, and graduate school preparation. Working with Prof. Joseph Gelfand and research collaborators at NYU Abu Dhabi and internationally, the selected fellow will contribute to projects that help interpret observational data and explore new physics in high-energy astrophysical environments.
Key Responsibilities
* Analyze and interpret observational astrophysical data related to high-energy phenomena in the Galaxy.
* Conduct research on massive star evolution, neutron stars, ionized gas, and related astrophysical systems.
* Use scientific computing and programming methods to process, clean, model, and evaluate research data.
* Support data-driven studies connected to energetic particles and high-energy processes in the Milky Way.
* Collaborate with faculty, researchers, and international partners on active astrophysics research projects.
* Contribute to scientific reports, research summaries, presentations, and publication-related materials.
* Participate in research meetings, project discussions, academic training, and professional development activities.
* Build practical skills in astronomical data analysis, computational methods, and collaborative science.
* Support interdisciplinary research activities within a dynamic academic environment.
* Maintain organized research documentation, analysis files, code records, and project notes.

Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Astronomy, or a closely related field.

* Experience conducting astronomical research is preferred.
* Familiarity with Python programming is preferred.
* Strong analytical skills and interest in scientific data interpretation.
