Role Context
The Research Assistant - Psycholinguistics will support research projects examining how language is processed in the mind and brain. Working under the supervision of Dr. Diogo Almeida, the selected candidate will assist faculty and research staff with experimental preparation, participant-based studies, data analysis, literature reviews, and academic manuscript development. The position is part of the NYUAD Kawader program and is designed to help motivated graduates build research capacity, strengthen their academic profile, and prepare for future MA or PhD applications in psychology, linguistics, cognitive science, neuroscience, or related fields.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist with experimental design for research projects focused on language processing, psycholinguistics, and neurolinguistics.
* Support data collection for behavioral experiments, M/EEG studies, fMRI-related research, and other cognitive science methods.
* Help organize, clean, analyze, and document research data in line with laboratory standards.
* Conduct literature reviews on topics related to language, cognition, brain function, linguistic theory, and experimental methods.
* Contribute to academic manuscripts, research summaries, presentations, and internal project documentation.
* Participate in lab meetings, research discussions, training sessions, and project planning activities.
* Support administrative tasks connected to research studies, participant coordination, documentation, and laboratory workflow.
* Work closely with faculty, research staff, and other lab members in a collaborative academic environment.
* Build practical research skills that support future graduate study and long-term academic development.
* Receive mentorship related to statement preparation, application guidance, research planning, and academic profile development.
* Maintain organized records, follow research protocols, and support ethical and accurate research practice.
* Use English and Arabic language ability where needed for communication, research support, participant interaction, or project materials.
Ideal Profile
* Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Linguistics, or a closely related field.
* Coursework in linguistic theory such as syntax, semantics, phonology, or related areas is preferred.
* Prior research experience through an undergraduate thesis, research assistant role, independent project, or similar academic work is preferred.
* Interest in psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics, cognitive science, neuroscience, language processing, or experimental psychology.
* Strong organizational skills and ability to manage research tasks carefully.
* Motivation to pursue graduate studies such as an MA or PhD in psychology, linguistics, cognitive science, neuroscience, or a related field.
* Proficiency in English and Arabic.
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a research team.
* Willingness to learn advanced research methods such as M/EEG, fMRI, behavioral experiments, and data analysis techniques.
