Job Overview
As part of NYUAD\'s cutting-edge Kawader program, the Research Associate will conduct experimental research on porous framework materials for water treatment, under the mentorship of Dr. Safiya Khalil. This includes synthesizing covalent organic frameworks (COFs), performing high-precision characterization using XRD, spectroscopy, and porosity techniques, and analyzing their application in environmental systems. The role also involves manuscript preparation, literature reviews, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
* Synthesize covalent organic frameworks (COFs) for use in environmental remediation
* Conduct structural and surface characterization (e.g., X-ray diffraction, spectroscopy, porosity analysis)
* Test material performance in various water purification applications
* Prepare technical reports, manuscripts, and scientific presentations
* Work independently on assigned research themes while contributing to team goals
* Mentor junior students or interns on laboratory methods and research design
* Participate in regular progress meetings and training sessions
Job Requirements
* BSc or MSc in Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Chemistry, or related field
* Research experience with porous materials (e.g., MOFs, COFs)
* Skilled in experimental synthesis and advanced material characterization
* Familiarity with environmental applications such as filtration or adsorption desirable
* Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills
* Willingness to work within an interdisciplinary academic team
