About the Role
The CAMeL Lab is recruiting at two
levels: Research Engineer for candidates with a Master\'s degree and Research Technician for candidates with a Bachelor\'s degree and at least 3-5 years of experience.
The successful candidate may work across the lab\'s research areas according to project requirements and their technical expertise. The position has a strong practical component, combining programming and software engineering with machine learning and language technology research.
Research Areas
CAMeL\'s work focuses on artificial intelligence, natural language processing, computational linguistics, and data science. Major research areas include:
* Arabic natural language processing.
* Orthography normalization.
* Grammatical error correction.
* Morphology tagging.
* Syntax parsing.
* Readability assessment.
* Machine translation.
* Text analytics.
Key Responsibilities
* Contribute to research and technical development across CAMeL Lab projects.
* Develop and maintain open-source NLP tools and language resources.
* Apply programming and software engineering skills to language technology research.
* Support machine learning and natural language processing experiments.
* Participate in the development and evaluation of computational linguistics solutions.
* Contribute to research publications related to project work.
* Collaborate with researchers on Arabic NLP, machine translation, text analytics, and other relevant research areas.
* Support the creation and continued development of research software and resources produced by the lab.
Qualifications and Experience
The Research Engineer rank targets candidates with a Master\'s degree, while the Research Technician rank targets candidates with a Bachelor\'s degree and at least 3-5 years of experience.
Strong preference will be given to candidates with:
* A degree in computer science or computer engineering with previous natural language processing experience, or a background in computational linguistics or language technologies.
* Strong programming skills.
* Strong software engineering capabilities.
* Machine learning experience.
* Some research publication experience.
Knowledge of Arabic is preferred but not required. Previous experience working on Arabic NLP is also preferred but not mandatory.
