About the Role
The CAMeL Lab conducts research across NLP, computational linguistics, and data science, with particular strength in Arabic language technologies. Its research spans grammatical error correction, text generation, computational morphology, syntactic parsing, dialect and non-standard language modeling, pedagogical applications, machine translation, and text analytics.
This position targets the Research Scientist rank and is intended for an experienced researcher capable of combining independent scientific leadership with collaborative research. The successful candidate will initiate and manage research projects, contribute to open-source language technologies, mentor researchers and students, and publish work in leading academic venues.
Research Responsibilities
* Lead innovative research projects in natural language processing, computational linguistics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and related areas.
* Develop an independent research program aligned with the broader scientific direction of the CAMeL Lab.
* Conduct research relevant to language technologies, including areas represented within the lab\'s existing research portfolio.
* Develop and contribute to open-source NLP tools, datasets, resources, and research infrastructure.
* Produce high-quality research for publication in leading journals and conferences.
* Mentor junior researchers and students involved in laboratory projects.
* Participate in collaborative research initiatives within the lab and the wider academic community.
* Contribute to research proposal and grant-development activities.
* Support the advancement of Arabic NLP research where relevant to the candidate\'s expertise and research interests.
Qualifications and Research Profile
Candidates must hold a PhD in computer science, computer engineering, computational linguistics, language technologies, artificial intelligence, or a closely related discipline.
