Assistant Medical Coder

As an Assistant Medical Coder, you will be responsible for assigning and verifying diagnosis and procedure codes while ensuring compliance with Dubai Health Authority (DHA) e-claims guidelines. Key Responsibilities
- Assign and verify diagnosis and procedure codes following ICD and CPT coding standards
- Ensure compliance with DHA e-claims guidelines and insurance policies for hospital claims
- Review electronic medical records, claim forms, and operative reports for accurate documentation
- Collaborate with physicians to clarify and validate coding requirements
- Verify insurance approvals for services such as diagnostics, antenatal consultations, and surgeries
- Ensure billed services align with approvals from insurers or corporate payers
- Identify duplicate services and confirm medical necessity with medical departments
- Review coding edits and apply necessary ICD codes based on insurance requirements
- Assist in cost estimation for self-pay patients and ensure timely physician queries
- Maintain high accuracy and productivity in medical coding and claims processing
Required Skills and Experience
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor\'s degree in any field, preferably in healthcare or medical sciences
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) accredited by AHIMA or
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) accredited by AAPC
Experience
- 0 to 1 year of experience in ICD-9-CM or ICD-10 coding, preferably in claims processing
- Knowledge of UAE health insurance policy terms, coverage, and exclusions preferred
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Outlook, and Word
- Strong understanding of coding standards, medical terminology, and insurance guidelines
- Attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing and assigning codes
