What Does a Cardiothoracic Surgeon Do?
- Perform a wide range of high-risk cardiothoracic surgeries including coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), valve repair or replacement, congenital heart defect correction, and lung resections
- Utilize advanced minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgical techniques to improve patient recovery and outcomes
- Conduct detailed patient assessments and formulate individualized surgical treatment plans
- Collaborate closely with cardiac anesthesiologists, perfusionists, ICU specialists, and cardiac rehab teams to ensure holistic and coordinated care
- Provide thorough post-operative follow-up to monitor healing and adjust patient care strategies as needed
- Maintain comprehensive patient records and participate in case reviews and mortality-morbidity meetings
- Participate in clinical research initiatives and keep abreast of emerging trends in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery
What Skills Are Needed for a Cardiothoracic Surgeon in Dubai?
Education:
- Medical degree from a recognized institution
- Completion of accredited residency and fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery
- Board certification in Cardiothoracic Surgery (e.g., ABTS, FRCS CTh, or equivalent)
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of independent post-board surgical experience in high-volume cardiac centers
- Proven track record in both adult and pediatric cardiothoracic surgical procedures preferred
