What Does a Clinical Genetics Physician Do?
- Evaluate patients with complex genetic conditions through comprehensive clinical assessments, medical histories, and targeted genetic testing
- Interpret molecular and chromosomal test results to diagnose hereditary disorders and congenital anomalies
- Develop evidence-based, personalized treatment and management plans for patients with rare diseases, inherited syndromes, or metabolic conditions
- Provide genetic counseling and risk assessment to individuals and families regarding inherited conditions, reproductive planning, and preventive options
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including pediatricians, oncologists, cardiologists, neurologists, and genetic counselors to ensure coordinated care
- Participate in clinical research, contribute to academic publications, and attend international conferences to stay at the forefront of genetics innovations
- Educate medical staff, patients, and their families on emerging genetic therapies, next-generation sequencing, and ethical considerations in genomics
What Skills Are Needed for a Clinical Genetics Physician in Dubai?
Education:
- Medical degree (MD or DO) from a recognized medical school
- Board certification or eligibility in Clinical Genetics by ABMGG or equivalent
- Subspecialty fellowship in Medical Genetics, Genomic Medicine, or Rare Diseases is a strong advantage
Experience:
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of clinical practice in genetic medicine, rare disease diagnosis, or pediatric/adult genetics
- Prior experience with WES/WGS interpretation, genetic counseling, and multidisciplinary care in a tertiary hospital setting
- Familiarity with genetic screening protocols, carrier testing, prenatal diagnostics, and population-based genetics is preferred
Skills:
- Deep understanding of molecular biology, cytogenetics, and pharmacogenomics
- Excellent communication skills and compassionate approach to family-centered care
- Proficiency in using genetic databases and electronic medical record systems
