Role Context
The Consultant - Breast Surgery will provide expert surgical care for patients with breast conditions ranging from benign tumors to complex breast malignancies requiring advanced oncologic and reconstructive treatment. The role requires strong clinical judgment, precise surgical technique, clear Arabic communication, and close collaboration with oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, plastic surgeons, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals. The consultant will help strengthen breast care services in Abu Dhabi by supporting early diagnosis, safe surgery, recovery planning, preventive education, and high-quality multidisciplinary treatment outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage breast-related conditions, including benign breast disease, malignant tumors, breast lumps, abnormal imaging findings, and complex surgical cases.
* Perform advanced breast surgery procedures such as mastectomy, lumpectomy, breast-conserving surgery, and breast reconstruction support where clinically appropriate.
* Provide oncologic breast surgery care with attention to safe margins, staging requirements, patient recovery, and long-term treatment planning.
* Utilize minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgical techniques where applicable and aligned with patient needs.
* Collaborate with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, plastic surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and multidisciplinary breast care teams.
* Develop comprehensive treatment plans based on diagnosis, imaging, biopsy results, tumor board recommendations, patient preferences, and international care standards.
* Provide preoperative assessment, informed consent, surgical risk counselling, postoperative care, wound review, and recovery monitoring.
* Educate patients on treatment options, surgical expectations, recovery timelines, preventive care, screening, and long-term follow-up needs.
* Maintain accurate medical records, operative notes, consent documentation, treatment plans, pathology follow-ups, and recovery instructions.
* Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, facility protocols, patient safety standards, infection control measures, and clinical governance expectations.
* Stay updated with advancements in breast surgery, breast oncology, reconstructive techniques, and minimally invasive surgical care.
* Support a culturally sensitive care environment by communicating effectively in Arabic with patients and families.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree from an accredited institution.
* Board certification in General Surgery with specialization or focused expertise in Breast Surgery.
* Minimum 5-10 years of experience in breast surgery.
* Strong expertise in oncologic breast procedures, reconstructive breast procedures, breast-conserving surgery, mastectomy, and lumpectomy.
* Fluent Arabic communication skills, both spoken and written, are essential.
* Western medical training is preferred.
* Proven ability to manage benign and malignant breast conditions within a multidisciplinary clinical setting.
* Strong understanding of breast cancer pathways, imaging review, biopsy follow-up, tumor board coordination, and postoperative care.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a compassionate approach to sensitive cancer-related discussions.
* Ability to work effectively with oncology, radiology, pathology, plastic surgery, nursing, and allied health teams.
