Role Context
The Consultant - Breast Surgery will provide expert clinical and surgical care for patients with benign and malignant breast conditions. The position involves breast assessment, imaging review, diagnostic investigation interpretation, surgical treatment planning, cancer pathway coordination, post-operative follow-up, long-term surveillance, and patient education. The consultant will work closely with radiologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, plastic surgeons, pathologists, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals to strengthen breast care services in Dubai and support safe, timely, and individualized treatment outcomes.
Core Duties
* Diagnose and manage benign and malignant breast diseases, including breast cancer, breast lumps, breast pain, nipple discharge, breast infections, and high-risk breast conditions.
* Conduct comprehensive breast assessments through clinical examination, medical history review, imaging evaluation, pathology review, and interpretation of diagnostic investigations.
* Perform advanced breast surgical procedures including lumpectomy, mastectomy, sentinel lymph node biopsy, axillary lymph node dissection, and other breast surgery procedures.
* Develop individualized treatment plans for patients with breast cancer and complex breast conditions in coordination with multidisciplinary teams.
* Participate in multidisciplinary breast cancer meetings to review imaging, pathology, staging, surgical options, oncology plans, and reconstruction considerations.
* Collaborate with radiologists on image-guided biopsies, localization procedures, diagnostic pathways, and pre-operative planning.
* Coordinate patient care with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, reconstructive surgeons, plastic surgeons, pathologists, genetic counsellors, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals.
* Provide pre-operative counselling, explain surgical risks and expected outcomes, obtain informed consent, and guide patients through treatment decisions with clarity and empathy.
* Manage post-operative follow-up, wound review, complication prevention, recovery planning, pathology discussion, and long-term surveillance.
* Educate patients on breast cancer screening, early detection, preventive strategies, genetic risk awareness, self-examination, treatment options, and follow-up care.
* Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation in accordance with DHA regulations, hospital policies, clinical governance requirements, and ethical medical standards.
* Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, research activity, continuing medical education, and breast care service development.
* Mentor junior physicians and contribute to departmental education, case discussions, teaching rounds, and training programs.
* Ensure compliance with infection control standards, patient safety protocols, surgical safety requirements, confidentiality standards, and evidence-based clinical practice.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MBBS or equivalent from a recognized institution.
* Completion of a recognized residency in General Surgery.
* Fellowship or subspecialty training in Breast Surgery, Oncoplastic Breast Surgery, or Surgical Oncology with a focus on breast diseases.
* Board certification or equivalent recognized qualification in General Surgery.
* DHA eligibility letter, DHA license, or eligibility for Consultant licensure in Dubai.
* Female candidate required as per patient-care and operational needs.
* Consultant-level experience in breast surgery, breast oncology, or oncoplastic breast care.
* Strong expertise in managing benign breast disease, breast cancer, high-risk breast conditions, and surgical oncology cases.
* Skilled in lumpectomy, mastectomy, sentinel lymph node biopsy, axillary lymph node dissection, and breast-conserving surgery.
* Experience working within multidisciplinary breast units, cancer boards, or tertiary care breast services.
* Excellent communication and counselling skills with the ability to support patients through sensitive diagnosis and treatment decisions.
* Strong commitment to patient-centered care, ethical practice, accurate documentation, surgical safety, continuous learning, and clinical quality improvement.
