Role Context
The Consultant - Cleft and OMF Surgery will provide expert diagnosis, surgical treatment, and long-term care for patients with congenital craniofacial conditions, cleft lip and palate, jaw abnormalities, oral and facial defects, facial injuries, and reconstructive surgical needs. The role requires strong clinical judgment, precise operative skill, and the ability to coordinate care with ENT, plastic surgery, orthodontics, pediatrics, speech therapy, anesthesia, nursing, and rehabilitation teams. The consultant will contribute to a high-standard surgical service in Dubai by improving patient outcomes through structured treatment planning, safe procedures, and evidence-based follow-up care.
Core Duties
* Diagnose and manage cleft lip and palate conditions in pediatric and adult patients, including primary cases, revisions, complications, and long-term functional concerns.
* Perform advanced oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures involving the jaw, face, mouth, facial bones, soft tissue, and craniofacial structures.
* Plan and carry out reconstructive surgery for congenital deformities, facial trauma, post-surgical defects, and complex craniofacial conditions.
* Develop individualized treatment plans based on clinical examination, imaging results, patient history, growth stage, functional needs, and multidisciplinary recommendations.
* Collaborate with ENT specialists, plastic surgeons, orthodontists, pediatricians, speech therapists, anesthesiologists, nurses, and rehabilitation professionals.
* Support coordinated care pathways for speech development, feeding function, dental alignment, airway management, facial growth, and psychosocial wellbeing.
* Manage facial trauma cases, including fractures, soft tissue injuries, dental-alveolar trauma, and complex maxillofacial emergencies when required.
* Review diagnostic imaging, surgical risks, treatment options, consent requirements, and expected outcomes with patients and families.
* Ensure high standards of patient safety, infection prevention, surgical documentation, operative planning, and post-operative follow-up.
* Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences, cleft care planning meetings, surgical reviews, clinical audits, and quality improvement activities.
* Mentor junior doctors, surgical trainees, and clinical staff in cleft care principles, OMF surgery pathways, and safe operative practice.
* Maintain current knowledge of advances in cleft lip and palate management, oral and maxillofacial surgery, reconstruction, and craniofacial treatment protocols.
Required Skills and Experience
* Medical degree from a recognized institution.
* Recognized specialization in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
* Fellowship, board certification, or equivalent qualification in a relevant surgical specialty.
* DOH license eligibility or active DOH license is preferred.
* Minimum 5 years of consultant-level experience in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
* Strong expertise in cleft lip and palate diagnosis, surgical correction, revision care, and multidisciplinary treatment planning.
* Proven experience in reconstructive surgery, craniofacial conditions, facial trauma, jaw surgery, and complex maxillofacial procedures.
* Ability to manage pediatric and adult patients with sensitivity, clarity, and strong clinical communication.
* Confident decision-making skills in surgical planning, risk assessment, emergency management, and post-operative care.
* Excellent collaboration skills with multidisciplinary teams involved in cleft, craniofacial, dental, speech, ENT, and pediatric care.
