What Does a Consultant in Critical Care Medicine Do?
- Diagnose, treat, and manage critically ill patients in the ICU, including those with respiratory failure, sepsis, multi-organ dysfunction, and trauma
- Lead the intensive care unit by making evidence-based decisions and coordinating the multidisciplinary care team
- Create individualized treatment protocols incorporating ventilatory support, sedation, hemodynamic management, and nutrition therapy
- Conduct ICU rounds and provide real-time updates and counseling to patients’ families
- Oversee junior physicians, intensivists, nurses, and support staff to ensure continuous patient care
- Use state-of-the-art ICU technologies including ECMO, CRRT, invasive monitoring, and point-of-care ultrasound
- Participate in hospital-wide emergency response, code blue situations, and policy development for ICU management
What Skills Are Needed for a Consultant Critical Care Specialist in Dubai?
Education:
- Medical degree from an internationally recognized institution
- Board certification in Critical Care Medicine or Intensive Care (FCCP, EDIC, or equivalent)
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of post-board experience in managing high-acuity ICU cases
- Background in a tertiary care hospital or academic institution preferred
Skills:
- Proficiency in managing ventilators, central lines, sedation protocols, and invasive monitoring
- Strong leadership and decision-making skills in high-pressure situations
- Excellent communication skills for interdisciplinary collaboration and family counseling
- Passion for teaching, mentoring, and ongoing clinical research
