This role is designed for a consultant-level specialist who can lead complex ICU management for transplant patients, support multidisciplinary decision-making, and maintain the highest standards of clinical safety, regulatory compliance, and patient outcomes.
The position plays a vital role in managing critically ill transplant patients before, during, and after surgery. Key Responsibilities
* Lead ICU care for critically ill transplant patients, including pre-operative stabilization, intra-operative support coordination, and post-operative intensive care management.
* Work closely with transplant surgeons, nephrologists, hepatologists, anesthetists, emergency physicians, nurses, and allied healthcare teams to improve patient outcomes.
* Manage complex liver and kidney transplant ICU cases involving multi-organ dysfunction, sepsis, respiratory failure, renal failure, and hemodynamic instability.
* Perform and supervise advanced critical care procedures, including invasive monitoring, mechanical ventilation, renal replacement therapy, and hemodynamic support.
* Make timely clinical decisions for high-risk patients requiring escalation, emergency intervention, or cross-specialty consultation.
* Ensure ICU practice follows international critical care standards, transplant protocols, patient safety requirements, and DHA regulations.
* Provide on-call support and expert consultations across intensive care, emergency, and transplant-related clinical areas.
* Participate in quality improvement initiatives, morbidity and mortality reviews, clinical audits, and patient safety programs.
* Support junior doctors, residents, fellows, and ICU staff through clinical teaching, bedside supervision, and structured training.
* Contribute to clinical research, transplant ICU development, and evidence-based improvements in critical care delivery.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MBBS or an equivalent recognized qualification.
* Completed residency in Critical Care Medicine, Internal Medicine, Anesthesiology, or a closely related medical specialty.
* Fellowship or subspecialty training in Transplant ICU, Critical Care Medicine, or transplant-related intensive care.
* Board certification such as UK CCT, American Board, Canadian FRCP, or equivalent specialist qualification.
* Minimum 5 years of post-fellowship experience in transplant-related ICU care.
* Valid DHA Consultant license or eligibility for DHA Consultant classification.
* Proven experience managing liver transplant and kidney transplant patients in a high-acuity ICU environment.
* Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide multidisciplinary teams during complex clinical situations.
* Excellent communication, documentation, and decision-making ability.
* Proficiency in English is required, while Arabic language skills are an advantage.
* Strong commitment to ethical practice, patient-centered care, clinical governance, and continuous learning.
