Role Context
The Consultant - Emergency Medicine HOD will combine senior clinical responsibility with strategic departmental leadership. The role covers the diagnosis and management of acute medical and surgical emergencies across all age groups, supervision of advanced emergency procedures, development of evidence-based protocols, and leadership of medical and nursing teams. Working within Dubai’s advanced healthcare sector, the consultant will drive emergency department quality, patient flow, staff performance, clinical governance, and multidisciplinary coordination to support safer outcomes and stronger emergency service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and manage the Emergency Medicine Department while maintaining high standards of clinical care, patient safety, and operational efficiency.
* Provide expert assessment, diagnosis, stabilization, and treatment for acute medical and surgical emergencies across all age groups.
* Supervise and perform advanced emergency procedures, including airway management, trauma resuscitation, cardiac emergency response, and critical care stabilization.
* Lead emergency response for high-acuity cases, complex trauma, sepsis, respiratory distress, cardiac arrest, shock, and urgent surgical presentations.
* Develop, review, and implement departmental policies, clinical protocols, evidence-based pathways, and emergency care standards.
* Oversee staffing plans, physician scheduling, workflow coordination, performance management, and service coverage within the department.
* Mentor junior doctors, residents, nurses, and allied health professionals through structured training, case review, and bedside clinical guidance.
* Collaborate with hospital leadership, intensive care, surgery, cardiology, radiology, anesthesia, pediatrics, nursing, and other multidisciplinary teams.
* Optimize emergency care pathways, triage systems, escalation processes, admission coordination, and patient flow across the hospital.
* Lead departmental audits, clinical governance meetings, CME activities, morbidity reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.
* Represent the Emergency Medicine Department in hospital committees, leadership meetings, accreditation activities, and external professional forums.
* Maintain accurate clinical documentation, procedural records, departmental reports, quality indicators, and compliance records in line with DHA and hospital standards.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree with specialization in Emergency Medicine.
* Board certification or equivalent recognized consultant-level qualification in Emergency Medicine.
* Eligibility for Dubai Health Authority Consultant licensure.
* Minimum 10-15 years of post-specialization experience in Emergency Medicine.
* Proven Head of Department, department chair, medical director, or senior emergency medicine leadership experience.
* Demonstrated expertise in trauma care, resuscitation, airway management, cardiac emergencies, critical stabilization, and emergency procedures.
* Strong experience managing emergency department operations, clinical governance, staffing, scheduling, policies, and quality initiatives.
* Excellent leadership, organizational, communication, and decision-making skills.
* Ability to work with hospital executives, multidisciplinary teams, junior clinicians, nurses, and external professional bodies.
* Fluency in English is required, while Arabic or other language skills are an advantage.
