Role Context
The Consultant - Emergency Medicine will play a key role in delivering urgent and life-saving medical care to patients presenting with acute illness, trauma, and critical emergencies. The position requires excellent diagnostic ability, rapid decision-making, strong emergency procedural skills, and the capacity to lead junior medical staff during complex emergency cases. The consultant will help maintain safe patient flow, timely intervention, accurate documentation, and high standards of emergency care in Dubai.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct initial assessments, physical examinations, diagnosis, stabilization, and emergency management for patients presenting to the emergency department.
* Diagnose and treat acute and life-threatening conditions, including trauma, chest pain, respiratory distress, sepsis, stroke symptoms, shock, poisoning, and other urgent presentations.
* Implement timely treatment plans to stabilize patients, prevent deterioration, and support safe admission, discharge, transfer, or specialist referral decisions.
* Lead emergency resuscitation, rapid response, and critical care coordination when patients require immediate intervention.
* Communicate and collaborate with ICU, internal medicine, surgery, cardiology, radiology, anesthesia, pediatrics, nursing, and other multidisciplinary teams.
* Oversee and supervise junior doctors, residents, and emergency department staff during assessment, procedures, documentation, and patient handover.
* Provide guidance, mentoring, and clinical decision support to help maintain safe and consistent emergency department practice.
* Document all patient interactions, procedures, treatment plans, clinical decisions, and handover details accurately and in a timely manner.
* Participate in quality improvement initiatives, emergency department audits, morbidity reviews, patient safety activities, and service development programs.
* Stay updated with advances in emergency medicine, resuscitation standards, trauma care, and evidence-based acute care guidelines.
* Support continuous professional development, training programs, simulation learning, and emergency preparedness activities.
* Maintain professional communication with patients and families during urgent, stressful, or complex care situations.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree from an accredited institution.
* Board certification in Emergency Medicine from a recognized authority.
* UK CCT, American Board, Canadian Board, or equivalent recognized certification.
* Minimum 5 years of post-graduate experience in Emergency Medicine.
* Strong expertise in emergency assessment, resuscitation, acute stabilization, trauma care, and life-threatening condition management.
* Previous Middle East healthcare experience is highly desirable.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, leadership, and clinical decision-making skills.
* Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced emergency department environment.
* Fluent English communication is required, while Arabic language skills will be an advantage.
