Role
The Consultant - Emergency Medicine will serve as a key clinical leader in the emergency department, ensuring patients receive timely diagnosis, decisive treatment, and safe escalation when needed. The role supports critical front-line healthcare delivery by managing trauma, cardiac emergencies, respiratory distress, sepsis, neurological emergencies, acute pain, and other urgent presentations. Through strong leadership, accurate documentation, team supervision, and quality improvement, the consultant helps improve emergency response, patient flow, clinical outcomes, and service reliability in a high-demand healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct rapid initial assessments, examinations, triage reviews, and clinical diagnoses for patients presenting to the emergency department.
* Manage acute and life-threatening conditions including trauma, cardiac events, respiratory emergencies, sepsis, stroke symptoms, shock, and complex urgent cases.
* Implement timely treatment plans to stabilize patients, reduce clinical deterioration, and support safe transfer, admission, discharge, or specialist referral.
* Lead resuscitation, emergency procedures, airway support coordination, critical decision-making, and escalation of care when required.
* Collaborate with physicians, nurses, intensivists, surgeons, radiologists, laboratory teams, and allied healthcare professionals to provide coordinated emergency care.
* Supervise junior doctors, residents, interns, and emergency department staff by providing clinical guidance, mentorship, and real-time decision support.
* Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation, including assessment notes, treatment plans, procedure records, discharge instructions, and handover details.
* Communicate clearly with patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, risks, expected care pathways, and follow-up requirements.
* Support safe patient flow by prioritizing urgent cases, coordinating admissions, and ensuring appropriate use of emergency department resources.
* Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, and emergency department performance activities.
* Ensure clinical practice follows hospital policies, infection control standards, patient safety protocols, and applicable healthcare regulations.
* Stay updated with advances in emergency medicine, resuscitation standards, trauma care, acute medicine, and continuing professional development.
* Contribute to departmental training, simulation sessions, case discussions, and clinical education for emergency care teams.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree from an accredited medical institution.
* Board certification in Emergency Medicine from a recognized authority.
* Specialist certification such as UK CCT, American Board, Canadian Board, or equivalent is required.
* Minimum 5 years of post-graduate experience in Emergency Medicine.
* Previous experience in the Middle East or Gulf healthcare environment is highly desirable.
* Strong clinical competence in acute care, emergency stabilization, trauma assessment, resuscitation, and high-pressure decision-making.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, leadership, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
* Fluent English communication is required, while Arabic language skills are an advantage.
* Ability to supervise junior medical staff and support a structured learning environment.
