Role Context
The Consultant ENT - Head and Neck Surgery will provide expert outpatient, inpatient, emergency, diagnostic, and operative care for patients with ear, nose, throat, thyroid, salivary gland, airway, voice, swallowing, and head and neck conditions. This role is clinically important because complex ENT and head and neck cases often require advanced surgical judgment, multidisciplinary tumor board input, precise diagnostic evaluation, and careful perioperative planning. Working in Saudi Arabia, the consultant will support modern ENT services, improve surgical outcomes, guide junior clinical teams, and contribute to service quality within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage a wide range of ENT and head and neck conditions across outpatient clinics, inpatient wards, emergency consultations, and specialist referral pathways.
* Perform advanced surgical procedures involving the ear, nose, throat, salivary glands, thyroid, neck, airway, and related head and neck regions.
* Evaluate and treat patients with head and neck tumors, airway disorders, voice disorders, swallowing disorders, thyroid-related surgical concerns, and complex otolaryngology conditions.
* Conduct endoscopic examinations and use advanced diagnostic techniques to support accurate assessment, treatment planning, and follow-up decisions.
* Manage pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative patient care with strong attention to safety, consent, recovery, complications, and clinical documentation.
* Collaborate with oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, speech therapists, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other specialists in the care of complex ENT and head and neck cases.
* Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards, clinical case discussions, surgical planning meetings, and complex care pathway reviews.
* Provide emergency ENT coverage and consultation services for urgent airway, bleeding, infection, trauma, and complex referral cases as required.
* Supervise and mentor junior physicians, residents, allied healthcare professionals, and clinical staff involved in ENT and surgical patient care.
* Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, research activities, teaching sessions, and continuing medical education programs.
* Maintain accurate consultation notes, operative reports, consent documentation, procedure records, follow-up plans, and compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
* Stay updated with advances in otolaryngology, head and neck surgery, endoscopic techniques, oncologic ENT care, and international clinical standards.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MBBS or equivalent from an accredited institution.
* Board certification, CCT, fellowship, or equivalent specialist qualification in Otolaryngology or ENT.
* Fellowship or advanced training in Head and Neck Surgery is preferred.
* Minimum 5 years of experience practicing as a Consultant ENT Specialist.
* Eligibility for licensure with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties is required for the actual work location.
* Western Board Certification such as UK CCT, FRCS, American Board, Canadian Fellowship, Australian Fellowship, or equivalent is preferred.
* Demonstrated expertise in head and neck surgical procedures, comprehensive ENT care, tumor evaluation, airway management, voice disorders, swallowing disorders, and complex surgical decision-making.
* Experience in tertiary care hospitals, academic medical centers, or advanced surgical departments is an advantage.
* Research, teaching, publication, audit, or academic involvement in ENT and Head and Neck Surgery is preferred.
* Strong clinical judgment, surgical precision, leadership ability, and multidisciplinary teamwork experience.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to explain complex diagnoses and surgical options clearly to patients and families.
