Role Context
The Consultant - Fetal Medicine will provide specialist care for pregnancies involving suspected or confirmed fetal abnormalities, complex prenatal findings, and high-risk fetal conditions. The role includes detailed fetal evaluation, parental counselling, diagnostic review, individualized care planning, and coordination with obstetrics, neonatology, genetics, radiology, and other specialist teams. The consultant will also support fetal interventions when clinically indicated and contribute to improved maternal and fetal outcomes in Dubai.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose, evaluate, and manage fetal abnormalities using advanced ultrasound, fetal imaging, and appropriate diagnostic tools.
* Provide specialist consultation and counselling to parents-to-be regarding scan findings, possible risks, treatment options, and expected outcomes.
* Review maternal medical history, perform relevant clinical assessments, and request appropriate investigations to support accurate fetal diagnosis.
* Explain the risks and benefits of different management options and provide clear recommendations based on evidence-based fetal medicine practice.
* Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to develop individualized care plans for pregnant women and unborn babies.
* Conduct or support fetal interventions when clinically required, including fetal blood transfusions, fetoscopic procedures, or intrauterine interventions.
* Monitor fetal condition, maternal progress, and treatment response through structured follow-up and timely reassessment.
* Maintain accurate documentation of ultrasound findings, consultations, treatment plans, procedures, counselling notes, and follow-up care.
* Work closely with obstetricians, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, neonatologists, genetic counselors, pediatric specialists, and nursing teams.
* Stay updated with the latest advancements in fetal medicine, prenatal diagnosis, fetal therapy, and international clinical guidelines.
* Participate in conferences, workshops, case discussions, audits, and continuous professional development activities.
* Support patient safety, ethical practice, quality improvement, and high standards of communication throughout the care journey.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree from a recognized institution.
* Certification, fellowship, or recognized advanced qualification in Fetal Medicine.
* Minimum 5 years of experience as a Consultant Fetal Medicine in a reputable healthcare institution.
* Western education, training, or experience in a recognized healthcare system such as the USA, UK, Canada, or equivalent is mandatory.
* Valid medical license or eligibility to practice in the UAE.
* Strong expertise in fetal abnormality assessment, advanced ultrasound, prenatal diagnosis, and complex pregnancy counselling.
* Experience with fetal interventions such as fetal blood transfusion, fetoscopic surgery, or intrauterine procedures will be an advantage.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to guide families through sensitive diagnostic information.
* Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, modern, and multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
* Fluency in English is required, while Arabic language skills will be an advantage.
