Role Context
The Consultant - Fetal Medicine will provide expert diagnosis, management, and follow-up care for pregnancies involving fetal abnormalities, high-risk maternal or fetal factors, and complex prenatal findings. The position combines advanced fetal assessment, prenatal counselling, diagnostic interpretation, interventional fetal procedures, and coordinated care planning. The consultant will contribute to a specialist fetal medicine service in Dubai by supporting clinical excellence, patient safety, academic activity, and evidence-based practice.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver comprehensive fetal medicine services for high-risk pregnancies, complex fetal conditions, and pregnancies requiring advanced prenatal assessment.
* Perform detailed fetal assessments, including anomaly scans, fetal echocardiography, Doppler studies, growth evaluations, and genetic testing coordination.
* Diagnose, evaluate, and manage fetal abnormalities using advanced ultrasound, prenatal diagnostic tools, and evidence-based fetal medicine protocols.
* Collaborate with maternal-fetal medicine specialists, obstetricians, neonatologists, geneticists, radiologists, pediatric specialists, and other subspecialists.
* Develop individualized management plans for pregnant patients and unborn babies based on diagnosis, prognosis, maternal factors, and available treatment options.
* Perform prenatal interventions such as fetal blood sampling, intrauterine transfusions, fetal shunt placement, and other indicated intrauterine procedures.
* Provide clear and compassionate counselling to patients and families regarding fetal diagnoses, prognosis, genetic risk, procedure options, and expected outcomes.
* Maintain accurate clinical documentation, scan reports, procedure notes, counselling records, treatment plans, and follow-up recommendations.
* Ensure effective communication with patients, families, referring physicians, and multidisciplinary teams throughout the care pathway.
* Stay updated with advancements in fetal medicine, fetal therapy, prenatal imaging, genetic diagnostics, and international clinical guidelines.
* Participate in clinical governance, quality improvement initiatives, departmental meetings, audits, research, publications, and academic activities.
* Support training and mentorship of junior doctors, sonographers, residents, fellows, and allied health staff involved in fetal medicine services.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree such as MBBS, MD, or equivalent qualification from an accredited institution.
* Board certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
* Specialist qualification, fellowship, or recognized advanced training in Fetal Medicine.
* Minimum 5 years of post-qualification experience in fetal medicine, preferably within a tertiary hospital or specialized fetal medicine unit.
* Proven expertise in advanced fetal imaging, anomaly scanning, fetal echocardiography, Doppler studies, prenatal diagnostics, and fetal interventions.
* Experience performing or supporting fetal blood sampling, intrauterine transfusion, fetal shunt placement, or other intrauterine procedures will be an advantage.
* Strong counselling skills with the ability to communicate complex prenatal findings clearly and sensitively to families.
* Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced specialist healthcare environment.
* Fluency in English is required, while Arabic language skills will be an advantage.
