Role Context
The Consultant - Fetal Medicine will provide expert clinical leadership in the diagnosis, evaluation, counselling, and management of fetal abnormalities and high-risk pregnancy concerns. The position has direct impact on early detection, family decision-making, pregnancy planning, fetal intervention pathways, and coordinated maternal-fetal care. Working in Dubai’s advanced healthcare environment, the consultant will support evidence-based fetal medicine services while helping patients and families understand complex findings, treatment choices, risks, and expected outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
* Diagnose, evaluate, and manage fetal abnormalities using advanced ultrasound, fetal imaging, diagnostic investigations, and specialist clinical assessment.
* Provide expert consultation and compassionate counselling to parents-to-be regarding fetal findings, potential risks, prognosis, treatment options, and care pathways.
* Review maternal medical history, perform relevant clinical assessments, order appropriate diagnostic tests, and interpret results accurately.
* Discuss the risks, benefits, limitations, and expected outcomes of available treatment options while offering clear medical recommendations.
* Coordinate with obstetricians, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, neonatologists, geneticists, radiologists, sonographers, nurses, and allied healthcare teams.
* Develop individualized care plans for pregnancies involving fetal anomalies, high-risk findings, complex maternal-fetal conditions, or possible fetal intervention.
* Conduct fetal interventions when clinically indicated, including fetal blood transfusions, fetoscopic procedures, intrauterine procedures, and other advanced fetal medicine treatments.
* Monitor patient progress through follow-up assessments, imaging review, fetal wellbeing evaluation, and multidisciplinary care planning.
* Maintain accurate and timely documentation of consultations, ultrasound findings, diagnostic results, counselling discussions, consent records, procedures, and treatment plans.
* Communicate complex fetal medicine information clearly to patients, families, and clinical teams in a sensitive and culturally aware manner.
* Stay updated with the latest developments in fetal medicine, prenatal diagnostics, fetal therapy, imaging techniques, and evidence-based pregnancy care.
* Participate in conferences, workshops, continuing medical education, departmental discussions, clinical governance, and service improvement activities.
* Support quality standards, patient safety, ethical practice, confidentiality, and UAE healthcare regulatory compliance in all areas of care.
Ideal Profile
* Medical degree from a recognized medical institution.
* Certification in Fetal Medicine from a recognized professional body.
* Minimum 5 years of experience as a Consultant Fetal Medicine in a reputable healthcare institution.
* Western education, training, or experience in a recognized healthcare system such as the USA, UK, Canada, or equivalent is mandatory.
* Valid medical license to practice in the UAE.
* Strong expertise in advanced ultrasound, fetal abnormality diagnosis, prenatal counselling, fetal intervention, and high-risk pregnancy care.
* Proven ability to manage complex fetal medicine cases in a fast-paced and multidisciplinary clinical environment.
* Experience performing or supporting fetal blood transfusions, fetoscopic surgery, intrauterine procedures, and advanced fetal therapy is highly desirable.
* Excellent communication, counselling, interpersonal, and clinical decision-making skills.
* Fluent English communication is required, while Arabic language skills are an advantage.
* Ability to explain sensitive diagnoses and treatment choices to families with empathy, clarity, and professionalism.
* Strong commitment to patient-centered care, evidence-based practice, accurate documentation, clinical governance, and continuous professional development.
